Tanning Beds Gives You A Lovely Golden Brown Skin

Writen by Keith George

Going to the seaside to get tanned has been a luxury with many from time immemorial. A lovely golden brown skin is a matter of pride for many young ladies and gentlemen. A bleak and harsh winter makes the idea of spending hours in sunshine very appealing.

It is a fact that exposing the skin to the sun's rays for long hours does more harm than good. The sun's ultra violet rays cause skin cancer apart from minor irritants like sunburns.

The tanning beds seem to be a solution to this problem, as people can get tanned without any side effects. But the origin of tanning beds is rooted in medicine. In the early twentieth century it was developed, to see if increased sunlight combats calcium deficiency.

But this is a misconception. Tanning beds also expose people to health hazards. They give off long wave ultra violet rays which are more harmful than short wave ultra violet rays.

Tanning beds have components that require regular maintenance. Some of the important components are tanning bed bulbs, internal fans, remote cable assembly, and lamp holder.

Tanning beds are used both in home and tanning salons. Tanning beds in salons are clamshell shaped. Tanning salons have drawn a lot of flak because of health concerns. Prior appointment is needed to tan in a salon. Home tanning beds are convenient and can be used any time of the day or night.

These beds are expensive. Many manufacturers offer warranties for more than a year and detailed literature about the product. Tanning beds are found all over the world.

It is advisable to use tanning beds with caution. Long exposure can cause burns. Pregnant women should not use these beds. The basic concern about over usage of these beds is related to cancer as basil cell sarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and the most dangerous melanoma can occur. Skin cancer is the most serious side effect, but there are other side effects also. Apart from burning the skin, it causes the skin to become wrinkled and over exposure results in cataract. This in turn gives an old look.

Tanning beds and tanning salons are now big business. Manufacturers and salon owners paint a rosy picture, but people should be told about the harmful side as well. Only a very judicious use of these beds is recommended. Tanning might bring a low in looks, but risking health is also foolhardy.

The Ultimate Exfoliating Treat

Writen by Ivy Mills

You've had a busy week and now it's time to get what you truly deserve - a spa quality exfoliating treatment. A week's worth of skin has piled up and started to make your complexion just a little duller than normal, moisturisers don't seem to do what they used to and you really need to spoil yourself before you resort to a quart of ice-cream.

Banish the gray tint from your skin by exfoliating once a week. Those with oily skin can pull it off twice a week without a hitch. Keep in mind though, that more is not necessarily better - layers of dead skin protect the new skin underneath. Don't do this everyday. 8 Step Deluxe Treatment

1. So where to start? Before you get wet, use a dry loofah sponge to slough off the really loose skin - don't scrub, just run it over your skin gently.

2. Get wet (unless you use Coco Luv Chocolate Body Scrub - it's for use on dry skin).

3. Apply an exfoliant with hands or a cloth, rubbing in a circular motion. Spend some time with this step - the idea here is not just to scrub off the dead skin, but to stimulate circulation as well. (I should note here that the more time you spend scrubbing your behind, the faster you will be able to break up the fatty deposits that cause the appearance of cellulite.)

4. Rough spots deserve a little more attention. Really rough spots, like heels, might need the help of a pumice stone to soften them up.

5. Rinse off thoroughly. Do not use soap.

6. Dry off.

7. Apply an intensive moisturiser head to toe.

8. Wrap up in your favourite bathrobe and snuggle up with a good book and a cup of tea.

So, if your now thinking "Great, like I have time for all that!" Try this one on for size: The Quickie

So you gotta clean yourself anyway right? Forget the soap - Do a salt glow! Grab a handful of bath salt and add a couple squirts of bath & body oil to it. Now scrub your wet self like a madwoman. This can be a heavy duty scrub (lots of salt, a little oil) or a gentle scrub (lots of oil, a little salt) - it's your choice. Now rinse, dry and taadaa - Your done! Now give yourself a quick second to admire your butter-soft skin.

Herbal Sex Supplements

Writen by Michael Rodriguez

There are numerous herbal supplements on the market today that increase sexual performance and satisfaction. How is one to choose which of these products is the right one to try? Trying to sort through the various descriptions can be time-consuming and frustrating. Therefore, when delving into the world of herbal sex supplements, it is important to know basic information concerning herbal remedies.

When looking for an herbal remedy, it is important to find one that states it falls under the category of herbal Se supplements. The Se stands for standardized extract, meaning the ingredients are carefully measured and formulated so that each tablet or capsule contains the exact same portion of ingredients. Some herbal supplements do not offer this imperative procedure; therefore, the doses will vary, even in the same bottle.

In order to gain such goals as penis enlargement, increased sperm count, or heightened sexual desire, the incorporation of herbal Se supplements is the key. With anything else, results will vary due to the variance in the dosages taken daily. When dosages vary, consistent results are much more difficult, if not impossible, to achieve.

A prime example of herbal Se supplements can be found by researching supplements such as the MacaEnhancer or Vig-Rx. There are numerous herbal Se supplements available, and finding which one is right for your needs is simply a matter of research. Maca root has become in an increasingly popular herbal sex supplement. When combined with amino acids, the mixture will result in not only enhanced sex, but also increased semen production. When shopping for herbal sex supplements, look for ones that contain those two key ingredients and try to find one that offers vitamins as well.

Getting the right ingredients from a supplement that utilizes a standardized extract procedure will ensure that you're using a quality product, leading to the best results. When researching for the right supplement to use, the very first thing to look for is if the supplements being studied are herbal Se supplements. If not, then do not waste any time or money on them. There are simply too many other products available that are proven to work without wasting effort on those supplements that are made with less than quality standards.

Natural Testosterone Supplements

Writen by Chester Ku-Lea

Testosterone Support Supplements (or Testosterone Aids) are meant to enhance your performance, increase muscle gains and make you bigger. Testosterone is the master male hormone. Testosterone supplementation can increase male sex drive, strengthen bones, muscles, decrease body fat, improve thinking ability, boost energy levels and guard against the onset of depression and heart disease.

Testosterone

Testosteroneis a powerful anabolic hormone that stimulates and controls the development of muscle, bone, skin, sex organs, and most other masculine, physical features. Recently, scientists have discovered that testosterone also aids mental function, enhancing both visual and perceptual skills. Male testosterone is produced in the testes by a group of cells known as the Leydig cells. These cells begin secreting high doses of testosterone during puberty to trigger increased lean muscle mass, sex organ development, bone formation and higher energy levels. Testosterone levels peak during a man's early to mid twenties.

Testosterone in Elderly Men

As a man ages, the amount of testosterone produced by the cells decreases. By the age of sixty, the average man will have lost nearly 50% of his testosterone supply. In addition, other factors (such as stress, lack of sleep, physical inactivity, the use of prescription medication and drinking) can cause testosterone levels to drastically decline. Although there is a growing awareness of the vital role testosterone plays in a man's overall health, the vast majority of men still don't recognize the key symptoms of testosterone deficiency.

Testosterone Deficiency & Symptoms Of

Testosterone deficiency symptoms include depression, fatigue, low sex drive, irritability, loss of facial/body hair, thinning and/or wrinkling of skin, weight gain, and the weakening of both bone and muscle tissue. Eventually, imbalances of testosterone can set the stage for the development of more serious disease. Low testosterone levels can also disrupt the body's blood sugar metabolism, leading to obesity and diabetes. Chronic deficiencies may also promote the early onset of osteoporosis and heart disease.

Benefits of Testosterone Support Supplementation

• testosterone supplements can increase your sex drive

• testosterone supplements increase muscle while decreasing fat

• testosterone supplements improve energy levels

3 Quick And Easy Preyoga Stretching Techniques

Writen by Richard Martin

All muscles tend to tighten up when idle, particularly the long muscles in your legs, back, and the sides of your body between your hips and your armpits. Sitting for a long time in the same position at a desk or bench will often stiffen neck or shoulder muscles. Such stiffness creates tension in the body and can even influence your state of mind. But the most common danger of stiff muscles is that sudden movement that may cause damage. The following are some popular stretchers:

Bend and Sway

With your feet apart and your hands on your hips, bend the upper body to the left; then bend back as far as you can go, then to the right, and then forward. bend to the left again and repeat. After several bends, reverse direction and do several more. You should feel the muscles stretching on both sides of your body. Clasping your hands behind your neck or above your head will increase the stretching benefit.

From the same starting position as above, sway, do not rotate, from one side to the other. Extending the arms high above the head will give you maximum benefit.

Wing Flaps

To loosen the shoulder muscles, stand with your elbows out and your fists together in front of you about neck high. Your forearms should be parallel to the floor. Slowly pull your fists apart, and bring your elbows back as far as they will go. Do several smooth repetitions. Raising or lowering the level of your arms will spread the stretch up and down your shoulders. Some other good stretchers include the bend, the groin stretch, the propeller, and the cobra.

Bend

Begin with your feet together and knees straight but relaxed. Bend slowly form the waist with your fingers pointing to your toes and your head bowed. When you have reached the farthest you can hold for 10 seconds. Then rise very slowly to a straight-up position. Repeat. If the muscles along the back of your legs are very tight, do not expect to touch your toes right away. Just make sure that those leg muscles get a good stretch, and you will enjoy daily improvements.

Variation 1: Bend slowly forward and clasp your hand hands behind your legs. Pull your body down slowly by bending your elbows out.

Variation 2: Clasp your hands behind your legs even lower than in variation 1. Pull your body down slowly.

For both variations, hold for 10 seconds.

Learn The Cellulite Cause To Win The Fight

Writen by Craig Weaver

The matter of fighting cellulite has been in the minds of women and researchers for a good many years. An effective tool in this battle has been long in the coming and people are searching for more of an instant cure. This is sadly something that is not possible at this point. The technology is just not there. What you should concentrate on is the cellulite cause itself. This is the most effective way for you to combat this problem at the end of the day. When you go at something from the very root cause you will find that it is easier to find a way around it. Right now the medical world is concentrating cellulite reduction treatment and the ways in which to make the appearance of the skin better thereby improving the image the person has of their body. Of course this is mostly a cosmetic fix and not something that is good for the long term to say the least.

The true cellulite cause has been only known for a few years to be honest. The term cellulite was not even conceived by the medical community. A spa in Europe created the term in response to the growing concern of the dimpled thighs that many of their clients had. Of course this in no way helped the actual treatment of the problem even though the spa did lay claim to many cellulite reduction treatment options that were of no real value. However, they are credited with being one of the many places to work on the exercise factors of cellulite treatment and of course spawning the movement to find a cure. There is no such cure as yet but that does not mean that there will not be one in the near future. The cellulite cause is completely natural and that is something that a lot of people do not realize. The body has a natural process to deal with fat cells. Fat cells are a normal part of life and everyone's body stores fat for the energy that it will need. There are a certain amount of reserves that the body sets aside for times when the energy is needed. But, when the amount of fat intake is too much, it stores too much which will eventually turn into cellulite.

To go to the root of cellulite cause you should understand that it needs to be defeated by way of natural weapons. This includes diet, exercise and plenty of water on a daily basis. You will find that these measures will do so much more than most of the cellulite reduction treatment options that are available today.

Craig Weaver is an editor for http://cellulitereductioninfo.blogspot.com/ the number one resource for cellulite cause information.

Lung Cancer

Writen by Karen Lavender

We all know about the important function that our lungs perform i.e. absorption of oxygen into our blood and the expelling out of carbon dioxide into air. Lungs are a very critical organ of our body and lung cancer (or development of malignant cells in lungs) can really be life threatening.

Causes of lung cancer

Most people would know the primary cause of lung cancer (after all there is so much propaganda about what increases the risk of lung cancer the most). Yes, smoking tobacco is the main culprit behind lung cancer (or behind increasing the risk of lung cancer). Even passive smoking can slightly increase the risk of lung cancer. It's unfortunate that even with all that propaganda and people knowing that smoking can cause lung cancer, people continue to smoke tobacco. People working in industries which involve extensive use of asbestos and other chemical substances/fumes are also at a greater risk of lung cancer.

Symptoms of lung cancer

Most of the symptoms of lung cancer are related to cough conditions. However, the difference is that lung cancer may lead to prolonged cough or blood coming out with cough. Chest infections, difficulty in breathing or a pain in breathing etc. are some of the symptoms of lung cancer. But again, the occurrence of such symptoms should not lead you to concluding that you have lung cancer. Only a qualified doctor through proper examination and tests can deduce whether you have lung cancer or not.

Diagnosis of lung cancer

When there are symptoms of lung cancer, the doctor might start with getting an x-ray and a sputum test done for you. CT scans and biopsies are other specialist means of diagnosing lung cancer. The diagnosis of lung cancer can be done quite definitively.

Treatment of lung cancer

As is the case with most types of cancer, the treatment of lung cancer is pretty much planned based on the type of lung cancer, its size, the stage of lung cancer and your general health. The main treatments of lung cancer include chemotherapy and radiotherapy (and the combination of both is usually used). Surgical procedures are also used in some cases but again the suitability of surgery is determined by the doctor on the basis of a number of other factors. So, the best thing to do is avoid smoking and cut down your risk of lung cancer.

Warren and Karen have been involved in the internet for a number of years and run several websites. They are most interested in providing opportunities for people to connect with information relating to business, health and creativity. Check out their Lung Cancer blog for more information.

What You Dont Know About Diabetes May Kill You

Writen by Barry Ford

In the past few years, cases of diabetes have skyrocketed to a staggering 16 million. One of the biggest problems that has been realized by the nation's doctors is that Americans know shockingly little about the disease or the importance of early detection.

A lot of these cases, actually could have been prevented. Dr. Curtis Harris, an Okalahoma physician, says "the vast majority of people living with the disease have type II". A disease that is often an overlooked killer. He went on to say "In fact if you look worldwide, the major killer of adults is diabetes and cardiovascular disease. They go hand in hand."

There are two types of diabetes, type one diabetes and type two diabetes. People with type I diabetes generally have a total lack of insulin, while people with type II diabetes generally have too little insulin or can not use insulin effectively. Without insulin, the body can't absorb sugar, or glucose, which cells need to produce energy.

How are the two types of diabetes different? Type II diabetes usually starts in young adulthood, while type I diabetes is usually detected much earlier.

With type II diabetes, no episodes of hypoglycemia, or low blood sugar level unless taking insulin or other diabetes medications cannot be prevented. In fact it can be prevented or delayed by living with a healthy lifestyle including maintaining a healthy body weight, eating sensibly, and exercising regularly.

How are they alike? Both types of diabetes greatly increase a person's risks of a range of serious complications. Although monitoring and management can usually prevent most complications. Diabetes remains the leading cause of blindness and kidney failure. It also continues to be a critical risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and foot or leg amputations.

Here are some more facts about diabetes that you should know:

1. Eight out of ten people living with diabetes are overweight.

2. Your chance of developing diabetes is higher if you have a close relative, such as a parent or sibling with diabetes.

3. For reasons not yet clear, Blacks, Hispanics, and American Indians have high rates of diabetes.

4. The less physically you are, the greater the risk of developing diabetes.

Thanks for reading and may God bless you always, and in always.

Blackhead Removal How To Get Rid Of Blackheads

Writen by Mike Singh

What are blackheads?

Blackheads are small "plugs" that develop in the pores of the skin. They are caused when the over active sebaceous (oil producing) glands in the skin become clogged with oil. This sebum then begins to harden in the pore. Since skin pores are open to the air, the top part of the hardened sebum or oil oxidizes, turning black. This black top of the oil plug is then forced closer to the surface of skin by the oil hardening beneath it. This then causes the blackhead to be visible.

It is not clearly understood why the sebaceous glands begin to become overactive. It is often noted that this situation begins at puberty, and may stop at the end of puberty leading to the conclusion that it is hormonally controlled. For some people this is not the case however, and they may continue to experience blackheads and whiteheads well past puberty and into adulthood. Whiteheads are formed the same way as blackheads with the exception that the pore is closed and the oxidation does not occur.

Acne results from infection of the oil gland due to the blockage by the blackhead. Preventing and removing blackheads helps to control acne.

Blackhead Removal

The following are some tips for removing blackheads:

- Keep the skin as clean and oil free as possible. Use natural or chemically prepared cleansers, astringent solutions or masks to accomplish this. Avoid harsh soaps that may irritate the skin or any creams that leave an oily finish.

- Use a gentle exfoliant to keep the dead cells off your skin and away from the pore openings.

- Avoid harsh squeezing or scraping at the blackhead. Excessive squeezing can damage the skin surround the pore and can actually increase the size of the pore leading to more blackheads in the future.

- A warm compress of water applied to the area of the blackhead followed by a very, very gentle pressure can help in clearing the clog from the pore.

- Commercial "blackhead strips" which are basically a tape like substance that is placed over the nose and then pulled off will remove some blackheads that are at the surface. Caution should be used with these products and it is important to read the directions completely before deciding to use the strips or not.

Hair Loss Shampoos The Often Overlooked Solution

Writen by Keith Londrie

There are many hair loss shampoos on the market today. This is one prevention method that many people who are experiencing hair loss tend to overlook. Use a hair loss shampoo as a step towards loosing your hair. Hair loss shampoos can be found in a number of different places. You may want to first start out by visiting your family doctor or a dermatologist who specializes in hair loss. These doctors may be able to prescribe hair loss shampoos that are not available over the counter. It will depend on your situation whether or not you will need prescription strength shampoos.

Hair loss shampoos were once designed to do nothing more than keep your hair clean and shiny. But this has changed in recent years. Hair loss shampoos are now designed to block DHT that mixes with enzymes on the scalp and causes thinning hair. This has been a huge advance in the area of hair loss treatment. Some other hair loss shampoos are designed to reduce inflammation within the hair follicle. This helps to keep the scalp healthy, and therefore help prevent hair loss and thinning. There are several different reasons that you could be loosing your hair. An expert can usually determine the cause in your particular case and make recommendations for you.

If you want to get your hands on the hair loss shampoos that are mentioned above, you may need to visit your doctor. They will be able to assess your situation and properly prescribe the most effective medication available on the market. If you would rather skip the doctor visit, you may also be able to find these hair loss shampoos at specialty stores and beauty shops. Online vitamin and supplement stores also carry a large supply of hair loss shampoos. You may want to check online if you are looking for variety as well as a great price. Try to verify that what you find online is actually a good treatment for your particular hair loss case.

Hair loss shampoos are improving with every year. Doctors are experimenting with these shampoos to find out which formulas work best and how often they should be used. These hair loss shampoos may be a great addition to your hair loss prevention plan. An ounce of prevention goes a long ways towards putting off hair loss. Care for your hair and you will keep it longer.

Power Bars Are Just Expensive Candy Bars

Writen by Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

Do you think an Energy Bar will make you energetic, or that a Power Bar will build muscle? That's what their marketers want you to believe.

All foods give you calories (energy), but if you don't move and burn the calories you eat, you will store them as fat. How many Energy Bars do you think they'd sell if they called them Calorie Bars?

If you're running a marathon, cycling 100 miles or hiking all day, energy bars are a convenient way to get the calories you need. But if you're sitting at a desk feeling sleepy, the last thing you need is an "Energy Bar"! That blast of refined carbohydrates and sugar will raise your blood sugar, causing you to pump out insulin, store the calories as fat and feel tired and hungry again in half an hour.

Protein does not build muscle. YOU have to work against resistance to build muscle. When you build muscle, you use protein from the food you eat, but any extra protein you eat is stored as fat. A reasonably varied diet provides plenty of protein. If you are doing heavy weight training, you can eat a little more tuna, milk, beans or any other food source of protein. Protein bars, shakes and supplements are not better than food.

Energy bars are made of sugar, refined carbohydrates and fats, fortified with small amounts of vitamins and minerals– the nutritional equivalent of a cookie and about 1/6 of a multivitamin pill. Protein bars add milk or soy powder. They are not more nutritious than a bowl of cereal, and they cost a lot more.

Energy & Power Bars - $8.00-$20.00/pound $1-4/serving

Breakfast Bars - $6.00/pound $.75-$1/serving

Oatmeal Cookies $3.00/pound $.30/serving

Cheerios - $2.50/pound $.20/serving

Vitamin pill $.16/day

Whole grains - $0.89/pound $.05/serving

No bars provide "complete nutrition," and should not be used as substitutes for meals. They will not make you more muscular, thinner or more energetic. Eat a varied diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans and other seeds, and treat these bars as cookies or candy bars – for occasional treats or convenient snacks during endurance sports.

Free Credit Score

Writen by Alison Cole

The credit score is an indication of a person's financial creditworthiness. It is used to verify whether the person qualifies for a loan, or other credit, based on whether he has repaid his last loan satisfactorily. A credit score is used by banks and other lending companies for estimating how risky the borrower is. It helps them to know how large a loan can be given and at what rate of interest. In other words, a credit report is a reflection of the past credit history of an individual.

In the US, the credit score is based on the FICO (Fair Isaac Corporation) score that is calculated using mathematical and statistical techniques. There are also other versions of calculating credit scores such as the kind that Beacon and Empirica use. A FICO score is based on various factors including: punctuality of payment in the past, capacity used (ratio of current revolving debt to total available revolving credit), length of credit history, types of credits used and recent credits obtained. FICO scores range from 300-850, wherein a score below 600 is considered "bad", and a score above 720 is considered "good".

Every person has free access to credit scores from three credit bureaus: Experian (Experian/Fair Isaac Risk Model), Equifax (BEACON®) and TransUnion (EMPIRICA®). Apart from these, lenders can have their own credit scores from other credit bureaus or their internal systems. Free credit scores and reports can be obtained from these three bureaus, one from each, once a year, under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). All three reports can be ordered at the same time. The reports can be obtained by visiting the website: www.annualcreditreport.com or by mailing an Annual Credit Report request form to the Annual Credit Report Request Service. Certain information has to be submitted for accessing the free reports: name, address, social security number, and date of birth. A free report can also be obtained more than once within the same year in certain situations, for example, if a person is on welfare, or if the report is inaccurate because of fraud, or if the person is unemployed and is looking for a job. If a company takes adverse action against the applicant such as denying an application for credit, insurance, or employment, one can request a report within 60 days.

Free Credit Score provides detailed information on Free Credit Score, Free Online Credit Scores, Free Credit Report And Score, Free Credit Score Services and more. Free Credit Score is affiliated with Free Government Credit Checks.

10 Tips To Lower Blood Pressure Part Two

Writen by Groshan Fabiola

Tip no6. Lemon blam tea is sure to strengthen your heart by lowering blood pressure. Just have some cups of it daily or simply add its fresh leaves to whatever food or drink you are having. Try adding such leaves in your wine and better still in your salads.

Tip no7. Being in the standards of the BMI (body mass index) really helps control the blood pressure. This means that an obese person getting fat is increasing the risk of having high blood pressure, but also that an underweight person gaining healthy weight is actually diminishing his chances of a heart stroke. Even if it does seem to be an elementary concern, take this advice into consideration: do keep a closer look on your body mass!

Tip no8. Alcohol will usually determine an augmentation of the blood pressure. Alcohol abuse is therefor out of question for those interested in a healty circulatory system. A man should stay between normal standards of drinks per day, that is to say 12 servings of beer, or 5 glasses of whine or only one glass of a high alcohol drink. As for ladies or lighter weighing persons, they should stick to drinking at most one of these measures per day.

Tip no9. You also have to work out more in order to control your blood pressure. Consider taking a nice walk of about half an hour every day, or choose to swim or run. Outdoor activities will strengthen your heart up and exercise will lower your blood pressure.

Tip no10. This last tip is a basic common sense rule that still tends to be neglected: Always keep a balanced diet! People oversee this on many ocassions, be it by force of events or simply out of carelessness. Consider missing meals for example: this determines increased apetite and eventually leads to overeating or consuming junk food. Meals should be balanced, never with too much of some nutriments. For example, when eating something with lots of fats, combine it with something else, less rich in fats. It's as simple as that. You know, it's not true what they say that you are what you eat, but it's a proven fact that what you eat makes up for much of your health and your well or, not so well being.

This medical article has been written by Groshan Fabiola. She is a professional writer since 1990, writing many article on various domain from agriculture finance to web development or web research, but now aiming only on health related articles. Weight Loss Dont Diet Live It 7 Guidelines For Healthy Eating

Writen by Edi Sowers

This is not about cutting calories, or following some short-term regimen of eating wild and wacky stuff. This is about a lifestyle of good choices. What you put into your body are the raw materials for every single physiological process that takes place. Your energy level, your mental ability, your physical strength, your digestion – all of these are impacted by what you put in your mouth, chew (or drink) and swallow.

I am a huge proponent of NORMAL. That means avoiding any special weight loss diets, or anything that goes to an extreme that you will not be able to live with for the rest of your days. Normal, however, must change from our society's current definition of "normal diet" which includes French fries, soft drinks (including "diet" drinks), sugar-laden foods, super-sized burgers, all-you-can eat buffets and triple-sized entrees at restaurants.

7 Guidelines to LIVE-it:

• Cut your portions in half. Whatever sized portions you currently eat – cut them in half, and save the rest for a snack later on.

• Drink zero soft drinks – regular or diet. Kick this habit, and you'll save money and improve your health.

• Starting this minute – keep fresh, cold water with you at all times and make a habit of drinking based on this formula: drink the amount of water in ounces equal to half your body weight in pounds.

Example: if you weigh 160 pounds, drink 80 ounces of water a day. Drink half that amount before lunch, the other half between lunch and bedtime.

• Eliminate sugar. Reserve desserts for an occasional treat, not a habitual part of your everyday life.

• Start the habit of "grazing" throughout the day. Eat a small amount every 2 -3 hours.

• Every snack or meal should contain protein…about an equal balance between protein and carbohydrates.

• Eat breakfast everyday, and it must include protein! A protein shake is a great, convenient way to go. I use a delicious one called Metafuel that makes a great snack, too.

Begin to follow these 7 guidelines - and include moving your body around regularly - and you'll find yourself living life "normally" every day in a way that will keep you at a healthy weight.

Everyone Knows That Insulin Resistance Makes You Fat Dont They

Writen by Guin Van Niekerk

Not really, no. Despite the fact that people have known for decades that insulin is the trigger your body uses to store excess energy from food as fat, it remains a well-kept secret that insulin resistance makes you fat. Not only that, it prevents weight loss too.

The reason for this is that insulin resistance causes an eventual sustained rise in insulin levels. Insulin, in turn, promotes fat storage and prevents fat breakdown, so people with insulin resistance keep putting on more and more weight, and they can't seem to lose it by dieting or exercise. This is because conventional diets are based on restricting calories by increasing carbohydrate content, and decreasing dietary fat. For someone with insulin resistance, this simply does not work. In fact, these diets make things worse!

If you take into consideration the fact that at least one in four people is affected by insulin resistance, this may help to explain the current worldwide obesity epidemic. It is clearly not just because people are eating too much and exercising too little, although this does contribute to the problem. It is simply because people are eating the wrong foods.

This is great news for anyone who has been on these high carbohydrate, low calorie diets, and experienced the gnawing hunger and cravings that go hand in hand with them. Eating the right foods often results in effortless weight loss, as well as many other health benefits, such as an improvement in blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and a decreased risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Conclusion? It is time to start eating the right foods. Avoid those conventional high carbohydrate diets…scientific studies have shown them to be less effective than low carbohydrate diets in achieving and maintaining weight loss. Try it – it could change your life.

How Green Tea Can Help You To Lose Weight

Writen by Arina Nikitina

Green tea has been highly valued in Asia for centuries for it's medical properties. In the recent years green tea benefits caught the attention of western scientists. Alongside with confirming many of the green tea benefits scientists indicated that green tea can also help you lose weight.

During their research they've made an amazing discovery. Even though green tea did contain caffeine it have not change the energy expenditure nor it have significantly change a heart rate.

That led to a conclusion that green tea helps to lose weight naturally and safely. In this respect, green tea or green tea extract is different from most of the prescription drugs for obesity or herbal products like ephedra, which can raise heart rates and blood pressure, and are not recommended for many individuals sensitive to stimulants.

The secret of such influence on the body lays in high concentrations of catechin polyphenols. These compounds work with other chemicals to intensify levels of fat oxidation and thermogenesis, where heat is created in the body by burning fuels such as fat. Green tea causes carbohydrates to be released slowly.

This prevents sharp increases of insulin in your blood (insulin stimulates the transformation of fatty acids into fat molecules which are stored as fat droplets). As the result fat is burned faster without being "locked" in the fat sells. I want you to remember that even a small effect can go a long way when you are dealing with your metabolism. For example, just by drinking one cup of tea a day or by taking green tea extract in the form of supplement you will burn about an extra 78 calories. This adds up to over 28,000 calories in a year. Which is about 8 extra pounds of weight.

There is also clear evidence that green tea's polyphenols (EGCG) helps depressing leptin (a protein produced by fats that plays an important role in how the body manages fat storage through brain signals). Lower leptin levels decrease the appetite. It means that you will get that "I'm full!" felling faster and as a result consume less food.

It is quite certain that green tea is now holding promise in various areas of weight loss. Drink a cup of your favorite green tea every day and lose those extra pounds easier and faster. Good luck!

A Brief History Of Drug Testing

Writen by Damian Sofsian

Drug testing is a big business. With at least fifteen large U.S. corporations supplying laboratory testing, employees and others are only a few minutes' drive from a testing facility. From employers who use drug testing as a pre-employment screening tool to parents who want to keep tabs on the well being of their teenagers, there are many groups that frequently use drug testing as a screening mechanism.

Since the mid-1980's, drug testing has become more and more common. Probably the group that is tested most often is prospective employees. With strict workplace safety legislation and the fact that employees can use dangerous equipment or have access to sensitive information, employers want to be certain that their employees are not drug abusers. With a sample of urine, hair, blood or swab from the mouth, drug-testing laboratories can often product positive or negative results within 24 to 48 hours.

Recently, drug abuse testing has become increasingly common in professional athletics. With the controversies surrounding the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs, athletes are under a great deal of scrutiny. The government has also stepped in, and has begun to implement stricter controls and more frequent screening of athletes. A positive result on a drug test can result in penalties such as fines, loss of game time, or complete dismissal from the team. It is safe to say that drug-abusing athletes are taking huge risks with their careers by abusing performance or other illegal drugs.

Opponents of drug testing argue that it violates a person's rights to privacy. They hold that even if an employee is a recreational drug user, it does not necessarily follow that his or her work will be affected. With random drug testing gaining popularity in the workforce, one may literally be drawn out of a hat as the next one up for a drug screening. While states only loosely enforce drug-testing laws, opponents say that random drug testing can ruin a person's life. Even recreational weekend usage may result in the loss of employment if the drug usage is determined with a drug test. Random drug testing is often argued to be testing without any probable cause.

Drug Testing Info provides detailed information about employee, random, high school, hair, and urine drug testing and drug testing kits. Drug Testing Info is the sister site of Prescription Drugs Addiction Web.

Understanding The Stages Of Sleep

Writen by Jason Rickard

In general, the common notion of sleeping is simply a daily activity that allows individuals to rest for about four to eight hours everyday. Medically speaking, sleep is defined as the basic anabolic process that is characterized with absolute minimum amount of consciousness. This is also the time when a person is unresponsive to his surroundings.

Medical experts have categorized sleep into five stages. These stages are further identified into two divisions – the REM (rapid eye movement stage) and the non-REM stage. Technically, waking is also part of the "sleep" cycle.

The "waking" stage is the part where a person is about to sleep. As one lies in bed, he or she has tense muscles due to all the daily activities and stress of the day. When an individual gets sleepier, his or her body system, including muscles, would eventually slow down. The eyes would begin to move erratically.

For some people, the "waking stage" is unnecessary and would jump to Stage 1 right away. Stage 1 is also known as "drowsiness" and lasts for about ten minutes. At this stage, the bodily activities are decreased by 50%. Most individuals would have their eyes close and can easily be awakened by outside noises or petty disturbances.

At Stage 2, a person's body temperature would decrease and his heart rate slows down. Soon after, his body would relax comfortably. Stage 3 and 4 would follow. These stages are actually where an individual is in the state of deep sleep.

When a person entered the REM stage, dreaming can actually take place. This is when there are noticeable activities in the brain that causes eye movement. Body muscles tend to relax and there are no major muscle activities. Because of the hyperactivity of the brain and the relaxed and comfortable stance of the body, dreaming usually ensue. Brain activities are heightened during the REM stage. Involuntary motions like facial movements, and muscles activities characterize this sleep cycle. It also often termed as paradoxical sleep.

One's sleeping cycle may vary from one person to another. Sleeping disorders can actually be pinpointed by mere observations of one's sleeping cycle. Physicians use polysomnograms to observe an individual's sleeping cycle in order to properly prescribed treatment and medication.

Are You Considering The Hoodia Patch Read This

Writen by Gary Stephens

Hoodia gordonii has been used for thousands of years by the San tribe (also commonly known as bushmen) of South Africa to decrease appetite. The bushmen use the hoodia by chewing the root while on long desert expeditions.

The appetite controlling features of hoodia gordonii were discovered in the 1990's when a South African laboratory known as CSIR did a study about the diet of the San bushmen. Hoodia was tested by being fed to animals, who subsequently lost weight.

Hoodia works by affecting the hypothalamus, a gland located at the base of the brain that regulates numerous bodily functions and signals, including hunger. Hoodia works in the same way that glucose does. However, hoodia has been found to be thousands of times more efficient in controlling hunger impulses.

There are many different products on the market to choose from. You can find hoodia gordonii in pill form, liquid form, and spray form. But perhaps the most exciting new product available is the hoodia patch.

The hoodia patch is applied to clean, dry skin daily. There are no worries about forgotten doses with the hoodia patch. The hoodia gordonii found in the patch is slowly released into the bloodstream and works by tricking your brain into thinking it's full.

There have been no unpleasant effects associated with taking hoodia gordonii for weight loss. If you experience any skin discomfort or rash when using the hoodia patch, simply switch to a different form such as liquid or pill.

When purchasing the hoodia patch or any other hoodia product, make sure that it comes from South Africa. The only authentic hoodia available is protected and grown on farms by the San tribe, who receive compensation for hoodia sold. The current patent for P57, the component responsible for hoodia's weight loss qualities, is held by the Phytopharm company.

Phytopharm is the only corporation who can sell hoodia specifically for weight loss purposes, but other companies can legally sell hoodia in patch, pill and liquid form as long as they don't advertise that it is for weight loss.

The hoodia patch, when added to a healthy diet and exercise routine, can increase your chances of shedding unwanted pounds quickly and easily.

Gary Stephens is known as the king of diet products. After losing over 60lbs with the use of certain diet products, he now writes informative articles and reviews of popular weight loss methods. To learn more about Hoodia please see http://www.hoodiahaven.com

An Exercise Plan To Lose Weight

Writen by Gary Gresham

Do you have an exercise plan to lose weight? Two excellent choices to consider are the elliptical workout and the treadmill weight loss workout.

Let's compare the two kinds of workouts so you will be able to determine which exercise plan to lose weight works best for you.

An elliptical trainer workout has become very popular and actually has a few advantages over a treadmill.

It is less strenuous to the knees, joints and lower back so it is very suitable for people with injuries.

It also works all the parts of your body continuously giving you a total body workout. An elliptical trainer workout is great for cardio fitness and you can get a good workout in a short period of time.

A treadmill workout is still a very popular workout today. Many people buy a treadmill so the whole family can use it. A treadmill workout is perfect for beginners because the intensity in the workout is adjustable by walking, jogging or running.

Treadmill weight loss can best be achieved by exercising within your target heart range zone. Here is how to find the right target heart rate for you.

First, you need to find out what your heart rate is while exercising after five minutes. To test your heart rate place your thumb on the underside of your wrist to locate your pulse.
Count the beats for 15 seconds and multiply that number times four. That number is your heart rate.

To calculate your ideal target heart rate, subtract your age from 220. For successful treadmill weight loss exercise within 70% of your target heart range zone.

Both the elliptical trainers and treadmills help you to burn fat and are perfect exercise plans to lose weight. Exercising not only tones your muscles, but actually gives you more energy for your whole day.

You can purchase treadmills and elliptical workout trainers on the Internet as well as fitness stores. Both machines are very effective for burning fat and losing weight. Just make sure that you buy quality equipment that will last.

If you are looking to burn body fat and take off weight, these two machine can be a great help for your exercise plan to lose weight.

How To Meditate Today

Writen by Steven Gillman

How to meditate? Breath, and watch your breath.

Among the documented benefits of meditation are less anxiety, decreased depression, reduction in irritability and moodiness, better learning ability and memory and greater creativity. That's just for starters. Then there is slower aging (possibly due to higher DHEA levels), feelings of vitality and rejuvenation, less stress (actual lowering of cortisol and lactate levels), rest (lower metabolic and heart rate), lower blood pressure, and higher blood oxygen levels

How to Meditate Right Now

Here's a simple technique that will give you results in minutes. Sit comfortably, close your eyes, and tense up your whole body. Sigh deeply, then breath deeply through your nose and release the tension from every muscle. Just feel each part relaxing, watching for parts that may hold onto tension, like a tight jaw.

If you still have tension somewhere, tense up that part again, then let it relax. It may also help to repeat silently "relax" as the tension drains. This will train your body and mind to recognize relaxation. Later you may be able to relax more easily just by repeating "relax" a few times.

Breath through your nose. This is important because it brings in more oxygen by involving your diaphragm more. You can test this. Breath with your mouth and you'll notice that your breathing is shallower. Then breath through your nose and you'll notice that your abdomen extends more. Air is being drawn deeper into your lungs.

Allow your breathing to fall into a comfortable pattern, and pay attention to it. Pay attention to your breath as it passes in and out of your nose. Your mind may wander endlessly, but all you have to do is continually bring attention back to your breath.

If your mind is still too busy, try naming the distractions as a way of setting them aside. For example, say in your mind, "itchy leg," "worried about work," or "anger," and then immediately return attention to your breathing. Use any way you can to identify and set aside distractions.

That's it. Continue for five or ten minutes, or for 100 breaths. Afterwards, open your eyes and sit there for a few seconds. You'll feel relaxed, and your mind will feel refreshed. And you'll be better prepared for any mental challenges. That's how to meditate.

Smell And Bad Breath

Writen by R. Drysdale

Have you ever noticed that an acute sense of smell and bad breath don't seem to come together in the same person? That is, people with halitosis often breathe right in your face without making any effort to conceal or divert the odor - they don't seem to know it's there. In fact, when someone asks you anxiously whether their breath is bad, it usually isn't. How can we explain this paradox?

Many people have noted that when it comes to our own breath smell is unreliable. We seem incapable of detecting an unpleasant odor coming from our own mouths, probably because the nose is constantly bathed in the smell from the mouth and more or less cancels it out: a large part of taste is smell, generated by food odors traveling up the back of the oral cavity to receptors in the back of the nose when we have food in our mouths. Our own body smell and bad breath odor seem normal to us.

It seems that the best way to connect smell and bad breath is to get someone else to make the judgment. The family physician may be the best person to ask because your dignity will suffer less and you are more likely to get a really honest answer. If this isn't an option, select a really good friend - one who you trust to be honest, sensible, and impartial - and ask them to judge your breath odor. Make sure that you don't do anything ahead of time to make your breath smell different from usual: avoid coffee, alcohol, strong flavored foods, tobacco, breath fresheners, and anything else you think might affect the experiment. You don't want to hear, "I can't tell the difference between the cheese smell and bad breath!"

There is one way you may be able to judge your own breath smell if you really can't get help from anyone else. Simply lick the inside of your wrist and then sniff your wrist. If your wrist smells bad to you, your breath probably smells that way to others. Before you do this, consider the same precautions as if you were having a friend sniff your breath: your wrist should be clean (no perfume, scented body lotion, or anything else that might affect your sense of smell and bad breath detection) and again, don't eat anything that might change the odor of your breath at that moment. Be aware, also, of odors in the environment that might affect your smell test.

Useful Information About Incontinence

Writen by Steve Valentino

Many individuals suffer from incontinence. Although it is treatable, many people are embarrassed to let others, even the doctor, know about their condition. Incontinence has two basic types: fecal incontinence and urinary incontinence.

Fecal Incontinence

Fecal continence is a condition characterized by leaking or poorly controlled bowel movements. In the United States, more than 6.5 million Americans suffer from fecal incontinence and this affects people of all ages?children as well as adults. But according to research, fecal incontinence is more common in women than in men and more common in older adults than in younger ones.

There are several causes of fecal incontinence. These include muscle damage, particularly to the anal sphincter muscle; nerve damage, loss of storage capacity in the rectum; diarrhea; and pelvic floor dysfunction. Aside from all these, there are also risk factors for fecal incontinence. Although they do not seem to be direct causes of the disease, they are in some way associated with the said condition. Risk factors include age, childbirth, and diabetes.

Loss of bowel control, diarrhea, and leaking bowel movements are some of the symptoms of fecal incontinence. These symptoms should never be ignored or mistaken to be just a part of a loose bowel movement. Seek medical advice for early diagnosis and treatment. Various treatments for fecal incontinence include diet changes, medications, bowel training, and surgery.

Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence is the loss of bladder control. This condition can happen to anyone, but it is very common in older people and in women. Some symptoms include mild leaking and uncontrollable wetting. These symptoms might be due to problems such as weak bladder muscles, overactive bladder muscles, blockage from an enlarged prostrate, damage to nerves that control the bladder, and diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

There are four types of urinary incontinence: stress incontinence, urge incontinence, overflow incontinence, and functional incontinence. The choice of treatment for urinary incontinence depends on its type. Treatment options include Kegel exercises, bladder training, medications, and surgery.

Incontinence provides detailed information on Incontinence, Urinary Incontinence, Incontinence Products, Stress Incontinence and more. Incontinence is affiliated with Hemorrhoids Symptoms.

Halitosis Odors

Writen by R. Drysdale

Halitosis is a word commonly used to refer to bad breath, and halitosis odors can come from a variety of sources. Most commonly, bad breath comes from the mouth, specifically from the back of the tongue where lots of bacteria are living, breaking down proteins found in saliva, dead cells from the body, and bits of food left there from your last meal. In the process of breaking down these proteins, the bacteria give off gases that contain sulfur molecules (often called volatile sulfur compounds), and these are the source of the offensive odor we frequently detect on the breath of others.

Classic bad breath from the mouth is probably the most offensive of halitosis odors, but there are other odors that can show up on the breath. Garlic is a well-known source of garlic breath, another manifestation of sulfur molecules that escapes not only on the breath but in the sweat as well. Onions, curry dishes, and strong cheeses can come back to you on your breath too. Smoker's breath is another common breath odor that persists on the exhalations and clothes of a smoker. These halitosis odors are obviously the result of personal habits, and if the habit persists, so will the bad breath.

Medical conditions are another source of halitosis odors, and these can range from "sweet smelling" to very offensive, depending on what is wrong. In the case of ketoacidosis, a dangerous complication of diabetes, breath is sweet smelling because of metabolic products that are being expelled in the breath. At the other end of the range, malignancy (cancer) of the upper respiratory passages can have a foul odor that is detected on the breath. Liver and kidney problems can also result in odd smells on the breath, so if a strange odor is noted and it can't be explained by oral bad breath or a recently eaten food, a visit to the doctor is in order.

Finally, drugs can cause peculiar halitosis odors ranging from chemical smells to odors that are less easily described. If you're are taking medications and you notice an unusual taste or odor, or if someone else remarks that there is a strange odor on your breath, check with your doctor or pharmacist to see if your medications might be the cause. Unless it is particularly offensive, this is one type of breath odor you can probably live with.

Inexpensive Hot Tubs Champagne Taste On A Beer Income

Writen by Denny Knutson

Have you ever thought of owning a hot tub but just couldn't justify that big ticket price? Well friend, I'm here to tell you of one of those deals that sounds too good to be true but actually is !

I work and struggle from paycheck to paycheck just like you do and so some of the amenities of life just don't fit in the old budget. Or so I thought. Yep, that's right, you can have champagne taste on a beer income.

Recently I was grazing the web looking for a good deal on a hot tub. I work as an emergency room nurse and my days are long (12 hrs a day). Like everyone else in the rat race, I get tired and so do these old tired aching bones of mine. Although I am able to retire in the next 6 years, I still have to work until then and put up with my body's aches and pains.

Enter the Portable Spa. That's right, a portable spa. Now at first I thought just like you are now, "Oh sure, a portable spa." What is it an inflatable pool? Yes, I too was skeptable until I took a close look at the product. Its called the 6 foot SPA-N-A-Box and it will seat 4 or 5 people. Its really quite nice. (http://www.spa-box.com/catalog/shopping/6_Foot_Simulated_Wood_Spa-N-A-Box)

Now a little about the price. Most of the spa's I looked at started at a mere $2,500 and went skyrocketing up from there. But not this little beauty. It was a mere $1,200.00. And yes, I was skeptable but the fact is, I bought it and it's a gem !

This has to be one of the best kept secrets around. It assembles in about an hour and works, feels and functions just like the big expensive Spa's. It has many of the same features as the more expensive ones except that you have to assemble it and its portable. I couldn't be more satisfied with my decision and Spa if I had purchased a big expensive one.

It has 100 plus jets, runs on a 110 outlet just like your toaster, It stands about 30 inches off the ground and is virtually maintenance free. Aging Stop With Antioxidants

Writen by CD Mohatta

None of us wants to age. Even if that is inevitable, we all want to look young. That is also right because youth has a beauty that is absent in age. How anti oxidants can help you in fighting aged looks? Let us find out.

Anti-oxidants: what are they - our body is constantly attacked by pollution, sunrays and other damaging factors. While saving the body, we produce free radicals. They are oxygen molecules without an electron. These free radicals' search around the body for a free electron. They take it from a healthy cell and kill it. That is very damaging to body and accelerates aging. Anti oxidants give an electron to these free radicals and stop them from damaging healthy cells. That is how they protect us from aging.

Anti Oxidants: how to use them. Most of the Vitamins such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E are anti oxidants. You get them from food. Beta-carotene that is a type of Vitamin a is an excellent anti oxidant. You get it from foods such as carrots. You can also take supplements of these Vitamins under a doctor's advice. Some Vitamins are dangerous in higher dose. Selenium is another anti oxidant. Copper peptide is one more. Some of these anti oxidants are formulated in topical applications and can be used to maintain the young look of the skin. Many Vitamin formulations are available in the market to fight aging looks by application. Choose one carefully that suits your skin type. Speak to your doctor and fight the aging looks. Anti oxidants are our friends.

Top 10 Tips For Finding Time For Exercise

Writen by Greg Landry, M.S.

If you're like most people, finding time for

exercise is difficult. Here are my "top 10"

tips to help you in that quest..

1. Make exercise a priority. We all make time

in our lives for the things that are most

important to us. If I told you I'd give you a

million dollars if you exercised everyday for

the next 30 days, would you do it? Sure you

would, because it would suddenly become a

priority. If you're serious about finding time

for exercise, then it must be a priority in

your life.

2. Block out the same time period everyday

for exercise. This way it becomes part of your

daily routine just like brushing your teeth.

Vehemently guard this time period. It is your

time to take care of yourself.

3. Exercise first thing in the morning. This

is when your exercise time is least likely to

get interrupted by other things.

4. Turn off the television. The average adult

spends 16 hours per week watching television.

One of my clients told me that she resolved to

only watch television while she was exercising.

You may not be interested in taking it that far

but you can certainly cut out a few hours of

television a week to make time for exercise.

5. Wake up earlier in the morning to exercise.

Try going to sleep a little earlier and getting

up a little earlier to get your exercise done

first thing in the morning.

6. Spend 30 minutes or so exercising on your

lunch break.

7. Get a book rack for your stair climber or

treadmill and spend some of your reading time

exercising.

8. Visit with your spouse or friend while walking

around the neighborhood rather than sitting on

the couch.

9. Take a couple of days to write down how you

spend your time everyday, then determine how

you can better use your time to fit in exercise.

10. Make your exercise as enjoyable as possible.

You will be much more likely to find time for

things you enjoy.

Eating For A Healthy Life

Writen by Kenneth Snodin

Few people have given any thought to what their nutritional needs are or how important nutrition is to their overall health. They don't know that, for example, if the human brain doesn't get enough protein, it won't develop correctly, or that if a female body doesn't get enough of certain nutritional substances like flax oil, the metabolism will be impaired, and the body will gain weight.

This information highlights and emphasizes the critical importance of determining what our needs are and meeting our nutritional needs through good eating habits.

Experts in the media often remind us to take our vitamins and to eat fortified cereals and to drink out milk, but what we really need is information about how our eating habits and the foods we eat contribute to nutrition on a daily basis. We must learn how to provide our bodies with everything they need – food, vitamins, minerals – to maintain optimal health.

In order to determine our basic nutritional needs, we need to educate ourselves about what, exactly, our individual needs are. Then we can use that knowledge and apply it to buying, preparing, and eating appropriate foods. We need to recognize that our nutritional requirements change as we age; the nutritional needs of a teenager are different from those of a senior citizen.

In many cases, what we need in terms of vitamins and minerals is much more critical than our need for calories. If it is necessary, we can take vitamin and mineral supplements, which are manufactured by nutrition firms, to help us fill the gap that may exist if we don't get enough of these substances in our daily diet.

Nutrition is an extremely complicated subject because there are so many variables to consider. As mentioned before, it is a fact that our bodies change as we age, and we will need to adapt our eating habits and nutritional foods accordingly. Additionally, the nutritional needs of people with illnesses are different from those of healthy individuals. Few doctors recognize this fact, however, and may provide the same nutrition advice to health pregnant women as to an ailing cancer patient.

To remain healthy and to sustain the optimal health and functioning of our bodies, we must pay close attention to our unique nutritional needs. And we must pursue more knowledge concerning how nutrition, physical exercise, and mental and emotional factors influence our overall health status

A Cure For Near Sightedness Radial Keratotomy

Writen by Nicola Kennedy

Radial keratotomy (RK) is a refractive surgical procedure employed to correct myopia or nearsightedness. Radial Keratotomy came into existence by accident rather than through meticulous research. The procedure was discovered by Dr. Svyatoslav Fyodorov when he operated one of his patients who had met with a bicycle accident. The boy wore eyeglasses, which broke on impact, and the glass splinters lodged into his eyes. The doctor had to make several radial incisions in the corneal tissue in order to extract the glass. When the cornea healed, the doctor found that the boy's eyesight was significantly improved.

In radial keratotomy (RK), a series of micro-fine incisions are made in the outer portion of the cornea with the aid of a high-precision calibrated diamond knife. The surgeon administers a local anesthetic, since the incisions are superficial and the procedure is fairly painless. The corneal thickness of the patient's eye is measured prior to the surgery. Before the incisions are made, the diamond-edged cutting instrument is precisely set under the operating microscope. Thus by flattening the curvature of the cornea in such a manner, RK can easily correct myopia or nearsightedness.

Radial keratotomy was first introduced in the United States in the 1980s. Initially it was much of an investigational procedure, with doctors operating only one eye at a time and waiting for at least 3 months to observe the results, before operating on the other eye. But the surgeons gained experience over time and now they could well operate both eyes simultaneously. Now, radial keratotomy is a minor surgery that takes about 15 to 20 minutes for each eye.

Radial keratotomy is constantly improving, owing much to the rapid advances in technology, and the fact that a number of such procedures have already been performed successfully. However, RK is not as precise as LASIK and PRK. Since, RK is less predictable, only a few surgeons now perform this procedure.

Oriental Medicine And Womens Health

Writen by Kitty Bradshaw

Women's health, and the problems that affect it, has been well understood by Oriental medicine for millennia. This holistic approach to health and well-being is exceptionally effective today in treating women's health problems, such as:

  • All kinds of menstrual-related problems like cramping, headaches, mood swings, and depression.
  • Childbirth-related problems.
  • Post-partum depression.
  • The full range of health issues affecting women throughout their reproductive and post-reproductive years.
  • Unique Bodies
Oriental medicine's foundational approach to disease prevention and health maintenance is that each person is unique, and there is no 'one-size-fits-all' solution to a health problem. For example, there are Chinese herb formulas that address the specific needs of young women, and others aimed at conditions experienced by women in their post-reproductive years.

    Unique Problems
Women have unique reproductive systems that are prone to unique health problems. For example, women as a group, have higher instances of kidney-related problems and illnesses than men: problems Oriental medicine effectively addresses through a combination of Chinese medical herbs, acupuncture, acupressure, Chi Kung, and diet and nutrition. Effective remedies, without side effects.

    The Power of Oriental Medicine
An example of the power of Oriental medicine as it relates to women's health can be seen in a thirty-one year old woman whose menstrual period stops prematurely. Oriental medicine has diagnostic methods for determining why her menstruation stopped, and therapeutic methods for getting it to start again.

    A Better Quality of Life
By addressing women's unique health issues, Oriental medicine helps you regain and maintain a unique feeling of health.

    Your Perfect Spa

    Writen by Briana Liebmann

Finding the perfect spa requires much research. There is not just one type of spa. In fact, spas are about as diverse as their customers. In order to find a spa that will fulfill your expectations, decide ahead of time what your goal is. Is it relaxation, rejuvenation, or some form of therapy for a condition or a trouble area you are dealing with? Once you know your expectations, you should familiarize yourself with the different types of spas available to you, what each spa provides, and the amount of time each program takes.

Normally, spas can be classified into four basic categories. The following is a list which also states and defines each category:

    1. Fitness: these spas incorporate fitness into the spa routine. Everything from aerobics to sports can be found for people who want to relax and lose weight at the same time. These spas are very therapeutic for active people who enjoy being outdoors, or for those who wish to learn a new activity.

    2. Wellness: For people who have certain health issues, licensed health care specialists supervise their clients while first class and clinically effective treatments are administered on the patient's request. The patients vary from those overcoming an operation to those who are trying to quit smoking or drinking.

    3. Day Spa: This popular form of spa is used primarily for pampering. These centers are not as expensive as other spas and have a more generalized menu. Most clients come to day spas looking for a few hours of relaxation and beautification. Day spas are great as a preparation for weddings or a formal event where you will need to look your best. They are also great gift ideas for anyone looking for a rejuvenating experience.

    4. Holistic: The philosophy of these centers is to treat the body as well as the mind and spirit. Many new techniques are implemented and often include traditions from other cultures such as meditation and Tai Chi. Even the cuisine makes an effort to be fully nourishing.

These few examples are a great way to begin research on your dream spa experience. Along with the desired goal, make sure you know the quality of the center. Be picky on cleanliness and the attitudes of the employees. If these elements are above par with you, you will surely be rewarded with the spa experience beyond your expectations.

Soothing The Itch Natural Remedies For Itchy Skin

    Writen by Ololade Franklin

Has your scalp or skin ever been uncomfortably itchy? Do you know someone who has an itchy scalp or itchy skin? Itching can cause extreme misery for the sufferer, however many causes of itchiness can be solved with simple remedies. There are many reasons why the scalp or skin may be irritated. So before you seek a dermatologist's help, ask yourself the following:

1)Are you using a shampoo or shower gel made from detergents like sodium lauryl sulfate or sodium laureth sulfate? Although these detergents lather wonderfully they can dry your scalp or skin out to the point of being extremely itchy. Consider switching to a natural soap-based liquid or bar cleanser, or try making your own cleansers yourself. Natural soaps are much kinder to the skin and scalp because they are made from vegetable oils instead of petroleum derivatives.

2)Is your laundry detergent making your skin itch? Laundry detergents are made from harsh cleansers and they are so strong that some of the residue may be left on your clothes even after the rinse cycle. When you dry your clothes, that laundry detergent residue is left on them. When you wear your clothes the laundry detergent residue comes into contact with your skin. As an alternative try a natural laundry powder available at health food stores or make your own soap, grate it, and use it as a natural laundry powder.

3)Are you suffering from allergic reactions to one or more food items? Commercially prepared foods contain many different ingredients which can sometimes cause allergic reactions. Try changing your diet by eliminating one food item at a time and see if this helps.

4)Has your skin come into contact with a bacteria or fungus that could cause itching (like athlete's foot)? Try applying tea tree oil, or a product containing tea tree oil to the spot that is irritated. According to Dr. Ruth Winter, M.S., author of A Consumer's Dictionary Of Cosmetic Ingredients, tea tree oil is "eleven to 13 times stronger than carbolic acid" and is non-toxic to the skin.

    5) Are you suffering from bug bites? Bites from mosquitos and other insects usually swell and cause intense itching. Try applying several drops of lavender essential oil directly on the bug bite itself to soothe the itching.

Cosmetic Surgery Postop Care Is Essential

    Writen by Nicola Kennedy

As with any other surgical procedure, post-operative care is imperative in the case of cosmetic surgery as well. Following the post-operative advice of your cosmetic surgeon could well be the difference between a stellar result and a mediocre one. Regular follow up visits are crucial in monitoring the progress of recovery. The recovery time and the amount of post-operative care largely depend on the type of cosmetic surgery performed. For instance, major cosmetic surgery procedures, such as abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and sizeable liposuction necessitate proper nursing for a significant period after surgery.

Another point worth noting is that follow-up surgeries (or touchups) might be required to eliminate undesired effects of surgery, or to attain better results. For instance, a woman's breast implants might internally rupture and therefore necessitate a follow-up surgery. Moreover, cosmetic surgery has associated complications and risks, such as scarring, blood clots, bleeding, or an adverse reaction of anesthesia. Thus post-operative care is pivotal for attaining satisfactory results and in order to expedite the recovery process.

Post-operative care entails being careful about the body part, which has been operated upon. Undue stress and exertion to that portion, just a few days after surgery, may lead to unforeseen complications. You must strictly follow the advice of the surgeon on this issue. In addition to this, you must have realistic expectations from the surgical procedure. Since a major cosmetic surgery involves a significant recovery period, you must not expect instant results after surgery.

The most crucial aspect of cosmetic surgery is to choose a surgeon who has loads of expertise in the pertinent field, since he/she can effectively advise you about proper post-operative care. Cosmetic surgery is something that one opts for in order to improve ones appearance and, in turn, ones life. So if you don't want to settle for anything less, simply adhere to your surgeon's advice on post-operative care.

A Soda A Day How Is It Affecting Your Weight

    Writen by Meri Raffetto

Many people limit themselves to one soda a day especially those looking for a quick sugar or caffeine boost. However, new research shows that daily soda may be affecting your weight more than you think. A recent study in the Journal of American Medical Association showed that women who drink soda or fruit punch every day gain weight quickly and face a significant risk of type II diabetes.

The study which analyzed more than 50,000 American nurses found that those who drank just one serving of soda or fruit punch a day tended to gain more weight than those who drank less than one a month. One serving is equivalent to one 12-ounce can of soda or one 8-ounce cup of fruit punch. The bottles of soda and fruit punches you find most often in vending machines are often 2-3 servings, which make these findings even more important since many people may be taking in more than one serving a day.

Over an average of four years, researchers found that the women who gained the most weight were those who increased their intake of regular sodas or fruit punch from one or fewer per week to one or more per day. Such women gained an average of 10.3 pounds, compared with an average of slightly less than three pounds for those who consumed one drink or less per week.

In addition, those who had one or more drinks containing sugar or corn syrup per day were 83 percent more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than those who drank less than one such drink per month. It is also interesting to note that Type 2 Diabetes rose by 60% between 1990-2001.

The findings in this study suggest that there is something especially unhealthy about calories consumed in liquid form, said Caroline M. Apovian of the Boston University School of Medicine, who wrote an editorial accompanying the findings.

"It seems that when you drink your calories as opposed to eating them, your body may not sense that you've just taken in those calories and your appetite doesn't seem to compensate," Apovian said. "The appetite circuit might not be programmed to register liquid calories."

The take home lesson is use soda as a once in awhile treat but avoid drinking them every day for your health's sake.
