Maintaining Health

Writen by Donahue Elway

The most valuable resource you have is your health. If you are not healthy, nothing else truly matters within your life. We are always bombarded with different diets and exercises. People are always giving us information on the things we need to do to maintain health, in one way or another. But, the truth of the matter is that simply treating yourself right will do so much for your health.

This can be taken in any number of ways. For example, you could be trying to diet and exercise. If you take the time to eat a balanced diet, you will eat properly. That doesn't mean giving up carbs or not eating meat. It means eating the right foods at the right times, in the right amounts. To know what the basic food groups encompass and what the right food portions are, take a look at the website of the Food and Drug Administration. This governmental organization can help you with maintaining your health through eating right.

As for exercising, it is crucial to your overall well being. For those with desk jobs, getting out and walking around is needed. Get a good amount of exercise through things like riding a bike, taking a walk, going for a run, or going swimming. For more exercise, why not join a club or sports team? There are many ways in which you can get the exercise that you need in order to be healthy. It doesn't have to be hard work, but should be fun and enjoyable so that you keep doing it time and time again.

Another aspect of being healthy is emotional health. It is essential to surround yourself with people who can provide for you a safe, friendly, and happy environment. By having good solid friendships and relationships that are built on trust, forgiveness and honesty, your mental health is stimulated and your emotional health is strong.

It is so important, that we will say it again here. Your health is the most important thing within your life. If you do not have it, you have nothing to count on. It takes a few simple steps to set up a good regimen of health. If you do have ailments, seeing a doctor is crucial. If you have emotional stresses, talking to a doctor about these can even help to relieve them. All in all, finding a balance on the activities you do and the foods you eat can help you to maintain your health. Sure, we can follow those diets and drink that special drink but if we do not build the foundation of our health, there is little room for a good strong, healthy life.

New Food Pyramid The Government Turned It On Its Head

Writen by Simon Volk

Your tax dollars hard at work have allowed the government to rework the tried and true food pyramid after 12 years. We all know and love the Old Food Pyramid, but I think what they have done is a good thing. For too long we have lived with this unchanged icon. This is a complete editorial comment, but considering the effort that more than likely went into the creation and education involved with both the old and new pyramids, it seems more Americans are obese than ever. Does that mean it doesn't work? First of all they added the concept of physical activity to the equation, not just they types and amounts of food. The amount of exercise, or lack there of, that we get has an effect on the amount of food we need to intake. The old pyramid was a one size fits all, some many servings of this or that with no mention or consideration for the individual and their physical activity.

Instead of this one size fits all mentality of the old pyramid, the new one also takes into consideration your age, gender, and physical activity. This is a vast improvement as it adds a level of customization to the guidelines. The number of servings is based on an estimated number of calories you need depending on your information. The New Food Pyramid website contains an interactive planner to help you decide what is right for you. Try it out and see what you think.

After all is said and done it is up to each individual to make proper use of the information provided. Uncle Sam will not be knocking at your door to see if you followed the food pyramid today or not. The goal is to eat healthy and to not consume more calories than your body burns throughout the day, or less if you are trying to lose weight. Combine this with a moderate exercise program and a multi-vitamin and you are leaps and bounds ahead of 90% of the population.

Sadly enough it is the simple choices we make everyday that determine our current physical condition. Make the right choices on a regular basis and you will see the improvements over time. A final reminder, before starting any diet or exercise program consult with your physician to determine what is right for you. Good luck and good health.

Make Your Workout More Effective Simply By Changing When You Work Out

Writen by Susanne Myers

Who would have thought that you can quickly and easily make your workout more effective, simply by changing when you work out? If you are trying to lose some weight, getting some exercise each week (preferably about 30 minutes a day) will go a long way towards reaching your goal. Here are three great reasons why you should work out in the morning.

You are more likely to stick to your workout
You know how it goes. You start your day with the best intentions to go to the gym after work. Then your day gets stressful, you end up working late at the office and by the time you get home, all you want to do is flop down in front of the couch.

It is much easier to stick to your workout plan if you hit the gym or go for a run in the morning. It's also a great way to start your day. You feel energized for the rest of the day after some exercise in the morning.

You'll burn more fat by working out in the morning
By moving your workout to the morning you will actually burn more fat during your workout. Just make sure you work out before eating anything in the morning. Your body will have spent all night digesting and using up the readily available carbohydrates and sugars from dinner. If you start working out now, your body has no choice but to burn stored body fat to keep you moving.

You'll feel better overall
Exercising in the morning is much more effective at getting yourself in a better mood than exercising later in the day according to a recent Scottish study. During the study by researchers from the University of Glasgow, one group of women took an aerobics class in the morning, while the second group took the same class in the evening. The group that worked out in the morning reported a 50% boost in their feeling of wellbeing, while the evening group reported only a 20% increase.

Give it a try. Get up and get moving in the morning and see if you don't start feeling better and notice the inches melting off your waist.

Nursing

Writen by Kadence Buchanan

Did you know that there is a branch of nursing that is concerned particularly for people of all ages who are suffering from mental illness or mental distress? This branch of nursing is known as psychiatric nursing or mental health nursing. It is this branch of nursing that pays attention to such mental ailments as psychosis, depression and dementia.

Psychiatric or mental health nurses are specifically trained to support other mental health professionals with their problems with patients. There are key differences between the scope of work of psychiatric mental health nurses and other branches of nursing.

For example, the clinical practice of nurses in this field usually comprises two levels: basic and advanced. If you are a nurse at the basic level, you are concerned with assessing the mental health needs of individuals, families, groups and communities, as well as developing a nursing diagnosis and a plan of how to take care of these patients. Furthermore, it is within your scope to see this plan through, after which you have to evaluate the level of nursing care that your patient received.

When working with patients, basic level nurses are concerned with a patient's' self care and they administer and monitor the required psychobiologic treatment. They also teach individuals and groups about mental health issues. They are trained to assist in crisis counseling and intervention.

On the other hand, advanced practice registered nurses possess a Master's degree in psychiatric-mental health nursing. Their role is that of a clinical nurse specialist or nurse practitioner. These advanced nurses perform many of the same duties of nurses at the basic level and they also diagnose and treat individuals and groups with psychiatric disorders. Moreover, advanced nurses provide a full range of primary mental health care services and oftentimes serve as psychotherapists, educators, consultants, advanced case managers, and administrators. There are many states in the US that grant advanced nurses the authority to prescribe medications. These nurses are also qualified to practice independently and offer direct care services to patients. Among the setting they are most prominent in are homes, offices, mental health centers, and community mental health programs.

Weight Loss Tip 4 Protecting Your Spine And Lower Back While You Lose Weight

Writen by Lawrence Cole

When most people begin a Weight Loss program or diet plan so that they can tone up and/or lose weight, the often forget about THE most important aspect of any exercise and diet program: Safety.

Although there are numerous ways in which exercising safely is beneficial to you, one of the most important and the least observed is concerning the spine and lower back.

There is nothing inherently wrong with spinal movement. However, problems tend to arise over time as a result of holding static positions such as sitting or standing with bad posture or not using proper body mechanics for lifting objects over a period of months and/or years.

Due to the above factors, a very large portion of the population eventually develops one form or another of complications with their lower spine and back.

Here are some ways that you can protect your lower back and spine area from injury and strain while exercising to tone up and lose weight:

  • Avoid bending over and lifting objects with your back muscles

This is a common habit that wears down on the spine and lower back area by placing more tension on the area than it should be handling. As an alternative, bend fully at the kness when picking up objects of any significant weight and use the power of your larger, much stronger leg muscles to carry the majority of the weight load and give your lower back and spine a break.

  • Strengthen your abdominal muscles for additional back support

The abdominal muscles are antagonist to the lower back, meaning that they stabilize movement at the back by providing a force in the opposite direction. They also have the potential to significantly reduce or even stop a force made on the back if they are strong enough.

Either way you slice it watching out for your spine is a crucial part of your weight loss program in that it keeps your body in good enough condition to continue your plan to help you tone and lose weight effectively.

Backache A Common Problem

Writen by Saurabh Jain

Backache is largely caused by sitting, standing or stooping for a long time and is prevalent amongst all age groups. Human physiology has undergone a sea change in the recent years with a large proportion of people spending a majority of their work time sitting in front of computers or desks or cars and other vehicles. The sitting posture puts pressure on our back and the constituent muscles thus resulting in backache.

Our spinal column is constituted in such a way that it provides the necessary stability to stand straight and the flexibility to move around. The spine includes a number of muscles that may get pressurized due to bad postures. Everyone of us is bound to face backache at one or the other point in our lifetime, but women in general are more prone to this problem.

A Woman's body undergoes a lot of changes during pregnancy. During the last two trimesters of pregnancy, the center of gravity of her back changes due to the position of the fetus thus altering the curve of her spine. Bending and lifting are also a regular part of a woman's daily routine and are the most common reasons of back pain. Menstrual pain can often result in backache amongst women.

Sudden jerks or movements can also result in back pain. Several conditions such as Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis, Viral infection, Bladder or kidney infection, Gynecological problems in women, tumors and trauma can also cause backache.

Excess weight or the wearing of the wrong type of shoes can also result in back pain. Regular exercises that strengthen our abdominal muscles are the best solution to treat backache. Maintaining the right posture and keeping our body weight in check can go a long way in the prevention and cure of backache.

Acne Does Sunshine Improve It

Writen by CD Mohatta

Acne - everybody has a favorite treatment

Acne has many treatments. Being a very common problem, people have found their own ways of treating acne. Some of them don't cure acne but may further damage the skin. Many of us believe that acne can be treated by getting exposed to sun, but is it true? Let us find out the truth.

Acne - causes

Once we know about what causes acne, we can find out if sunshine affects any of them. The causes of acne are very simple. Because of hormonal changes and sometime pressure or chemicals, body produces more sebum. The gland keeps on producing sebum, but the gland opening gets closed with dead skin. This makes the gland expand like a balloon. The bacteria P.acnes infects the gland and inflames it. This gland forms the acne. If the infection is not severe you will call it black head or white heads, otherwise pimples, cystic acne etc.

Acne - treatments

Every acne treatment tries to address one or more of the causes of acne formation. Sunlight does not address any of the causes. What it does is to either burn the skin or tan it. With tanned look, acne looks less apparent and we believe that it is going away. But that is not true. Rather sun damages the skin and may cause early wrinkles, aging and even cancer. Please consult your doctor about acne treatment and stop believing that sun can cure it.

Acne And Carbohydrates Is There A Link

Writen by Mike Singh

There has been a lot of speculation about how diet and food intake affects acne. There is a relationship between what we eat and how our skin reacts, although the exact interaction is not clearly understood. All food has properties that are helpful or harmful to our bodies. Most foods have a combination of helpful and harmful components and our bodies are designed to utilize the positive attributes of the food and to eliminate the negative. Sometimes, based on our bodies' ability to process food, there may be changes in chemical and hormonal balances caused by food. Some contributing factors to changes in body metabolism are:

- Change in diet
- Change in climate
- High stress levels
- Natural hormonal changes in the body due to age and development
- Illness and infections within the body

In this article we are going to explore the relationship between carbohydrates and acne.

Carbohydrates

There are low-carbohydrate and high-carbohydrate foods found in the average daily diet. Teenagers and adults who eat a high carbohydrate diet are more prone to acne and outbreaks. Teenagers and adults who eat a lower carbohydrate diet that limits the amount of refined sugars have significantly fewer acne problems and outbreaks. High carbohydrate foods include candies, highly processed foods such as white bread, sugary cereals and fast foods. It is believed by scientists and nutritionists that the high carbohydrate foods trigger a sharp increase in insulin production that in turn triggers hormonal increases leading to oily skin and clogged pores.

Best Diet Choices

If you have acne, we recommend that you try the following changes in your diet (after discussing it with your doctor of course):

- Eat as much natural food as possible such as fruits and vegetables.
- Limit high carbohydrate items and switch to whole grain wheat products.
- Avoid fried foods or foods cooked in oils.
- Drink at least six glasses of water per day.
- Eat high fiber foods. These high fiber foods tend to be generally low carbohydrate foods.
- Avoid any foods that you may be allergic to. Keep a record of what is eaten for a week and see if there is any pattern to outbreaks.

Where To Find Discount Hot Tubs

Writen by Kevin Stith

There are a number of ways that people can get discount hot tubs. Many stores and online sellers have hot tubs at great discounts. Used hot tubs are another option for people looking to save money on a spa. Finally, people who are strong believers in the do-it-yourself work ethic can build their own hot tubs.

Many sellers have huge discounts for hot tubs. This can happen for a number of reasons. They could be overstocked and desperate to clear room for new or different products, they can offer seasonal sales, or they could get discounts from the manufacturers and pass the saving on to the customer. Sometimes sellers end up with more products than they expect and are in a situation where they need to unload the merchandise in order to have room for other products. They will sell the old overstocked goods at huge discounts, providing great deals to buyers. Seasonal sales are another way buyers can save money. At different times of the year, sellers may offer discounts to capitalize on the increased number of shoppers due to the time of year. For example, many people purchase pools and spas in the spring to be able to use them in the summer, so sellers offer discounts to lure those people to buy from them. Finally, manufacturers often offer their products to sellers at discounted rates, allowing the sellers to sell them for less, too.

Many stores offer used spas as well. Classified ads in local newspapers often advertise used hot tubs as well. When buying a used hot tub, it is vital to know the condition of the product before giving the seller any money. It is a good idea to get a warranty on a used hot tub, and to conduct a wet test of the product if at all possible.

Another way to obtain a discount hot tub is to build one. This is a rather daunting task for many people, but it can be a great idea for people who are good at building things. There are several books that give very detailed instructions on how to build a hot tub. This option can be risky for some people, but it can be a fulfilling, project that can save a ton of money for others.

With this many options, it is easy to find discount hot tubs. Buyers should be able to find what they want and save money as well.

Hot Tubs Info provides detailed information on discount, portable and gazebo hot tubs for sale, as well as covers and other parts. Hot Tubs Info is the sister site of Saunas Web.

Some Insider Info About What Causes Bad Breath

Writen by John Gibb

Although it is considered common sense, let's begin with a quick definition of what bad breath is. Bad breath, also known as halitosis, is breath that contains unpleasant odor. This odor can either be permanent or it may be triggered by various reasons during various periods of time.

For the majority of the patients, bad breath is caused by millions of bacteria that live inside the mouth. Those bacteria inhibit all the oral area but most of them live on the back of our tongue. Our mouth provides a warm, moist environment; those are the perfect conditions for the bacteria to grow and multiply.

In fact, bad breath can be something as simple as what we call "morning mouth" or it can be something more serious which has to with your health. For most of the times however, it's not related to a health problem; statistics say that for the 80% of the cases, it's just something inside our mouth that's causing it.

Morning mouth is caused because during the night, saliva in your mouth diminishes. As that happens, dead cells inside your mouth will stick on your tongue. In turn, bacteria will eat those dead cells and then expel compounds with an awful odor (disgusting, isn't it?). That's pretty much the whole story behind the "morning mouth" bad breath.

Another reason can be poor dental hygiene. If you don't brush your teeth frequently enough it is almost guaranteed that you will have a bad breath at some point.

In some cases, oral infections or a bad tooth can be the reason of a really bad breath. In those cases it would be best to visit your doctor/dentist. You could always use some home-made, old remedies but they are not guaranteed to be effective in your situation. Apart from those infections, more serious health problems such as diabetes, liver disease, lung disease etc. can be the cause of a very stinky breath.

Finally, everybody knows that external agents such as garlic, onions, coffee and tobacco can cause your breath to smell bad.

Hopefully, now that we have identified the main causes of bad breath, you will quickly know where to focus when the time to fight it comes. Don't let others feel for you the same way that you feel for someone who has a breath which stinks as much as bathrooms in the 40's did!

Natural Acne Remedies For You

Writen by Martha Fitzharris

Traditional medicine that is given to improve Acne condition may have side effects on us. That may be the reason why some people may prefer natural methods instead of pharmaceutical ones. Here are some examples of natural acne remedies.

When going to a natural practitioner, one of the first things that he will tell you is that "it's what's inside that count". Some of the guidelines you may follow are:

When cleaning your skin daily, you may have a routine that includes washing and moisturizing with the best natural products. Have a facial monthly. This will help keep your skin healthy and glowing. Your aesthetician will help you to identify your skin type and make recommendations about cleansers and moisturizers.

This facial routine should include an exfoliation once or twice a week, depending on your type of skin. And, if you suffer from acne as an adult you will still need to keep your skin moisturized. Make sure that you use an SPF on your skin everyday.

Pain Management Doctors

Writen by Max Bellamy

Pain management doctors in most cases happen to be anesthesiologists. Anesthesiologists ensure that you are safe, pain-free and comfortable during and after surgery. They are also at work in the labor and delivery area, or in doctors' chambers where painful medical tests or procedures are performed. But the methods applied by anesthesiologists have now traveled beyond these familiar territories, and led to the development of a new category of medicine known as pain medicine.

In many cases, an anesthesiologist heads a team of other specialists and doctors who work together to alleviate your pain. The anesthesiologist or other pain medicine doctors like neurologists, oncologists, orthopedists, physiatrists and psychiatrists, and non-physician specialists like nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical or rehabilitation therapists and psychologists, join together to assess your condition. After a thorough assessment, this team of specialists develops a treatment plan just for you.

Pain management doctors are specialists at diagnosing the reasons for your pain as well as treating the pain itself. Arthritis, back and neck pain, cancer pain, nerve pain, migraine headaches, shingles, and phantom limb pain for amputees are among the most common pain problems they usually manage.

Pain management doctors also treat acute pain caused by surgery, a debilitating illness or a serious injury. Among such pains is post knee-joint replacement pain, pain during recovery from a car accident, pain following stomach or chest surgery, or pain associated with sickle cell disease. They can treat the patient in the hospital or in an outpatient clinic.

The pain medicine doctor usually works closely with your own physician. They will review your medical records and X-rays as required. To have a clear understanding of the case, they will give you a detailed questionnaire. Your replies will help them to assess how your pain is affecting your daily life. Pain management doctors will also carry out a complete physical examination on you. They may even go for additional tests and review all the results to find the root cause of your pain and determine how the problem can be solved.

Pain Management provides detailed information on Pain Management, Pain Management Clinics, Chronic Pain Management, Pain Management Doctors and more. Pain Management is affiliated with Back Pain Relief.

Accupressure

Writen by Niti Shahi

Below our body's skin surface their lies a complex structure of nerves, veins and aster ices, each of them performing different functions. The onset of pain or any other common problem like backaches, asthma, heart attach, arthritis is the result of blockage of one of these veins only. The location of the actual site of the pain or problem is hard to discover by the normal individual. There are pressure points of our each and every part of the body. By pressing these points we can heal many ailments and this healing of points is known as Acupressure.

Fed up by the side effects of allopathic drugs, the people of India are new turning there attention towards acupressure therapies mainly nature cure methods that offer easy, home treatments without expensive drugs that leave side effects. This ancient science of healing traveled in the days of Buddhism to Sri Lanka and then to China but it originated in India.

Acupressure therapy is one of the simplest, safest and effective methods of stimulating the site of pain or other disorders. The Chinese used needles to stimulate these sites and named this healing as acupuncture while the Indians used bare fingers and hence name it Acupressure.

It has been proved helpful in relieving many types of arthritis, back pain, neck pain, and many other every day ailments, it can be used in combination with other treatments for a variety of general illnesses such as asthma, bronchitis, chest pain, menstrual cramps and abdominal disorders. The main aspect of the treatment lies in locating the pressure point, which offers connectivity to an area of pain or ailment. The patient's cry of pain is the indication that the right site has been located. It offers relief without an intake of medicine, pills, hot and cold application etc.

Mainly acupressurist believe that our palms and feet control the working of each and every part of the body. Each body part has its pressure point on the palms and feet. According to acupressurists the human body has fourteen imaging meridians that transfer the energy to the whole body. These meridians start from the fingertips and are connected to the brain and then they are connected to the organs associated with each meridian. Any pain in the body or any other disorder is the result of blockage in the meridians associated with the particular organs or parts.

There are different types of acupressure and each type may be involving different methods. Most popular are:

Shiatsu – A Japanese technique. In it whole body is used to apply strong pressure.

Tui na- Chinese acupressure. In this hands are used for applying pressure. Reflexology- it involves both feet and hands

Automatic Dehydration Return Sportswear Sensors

Writen by Lance Winslow

I propose Sportswear, which senses the amount of moisture from sweat, which is coming off the body. Think of a bicycle racer in the Tour de Lance. As the racers move up the hill they work their human bodies to the maximum, their bodies sweat and that water must be replaced. The Shorts and shirts can sense the amount of perspiration and heat coming off the body and a simple formula can be figured to give them back that water from their water bottle. As a former marathon runner, I often saw other athletes drink too much water or not enough along the racecourse. We use to call too much water consumption causing a waterlogged effect. Drinking too much water too quickly after a race could actually cause death. Too little and dehydration sets in and decreases both performance during the race and recovery time after the race. When running marathons you do not carry your water bottles, but in bicycle racing you do.

With the advances in re-active camouflage in the military and research being done by those like Joanna "Joey" Berzowski with wearable technology and the work of Dr. Joseph A. Resnick we see that this concept is moving ahead and ready for wide use in the private sector with transfer technology available now.

http://www.berzowska.com/

http://www.nxgenbodyarmorusa.com/

Automatic Dehydration Return Sportswear Sensors can be a reality in a few months from now with the right start-up company and venture capitalization. This idea might also be good in space station wear, military troops, Professional Sporting Athletes, outdoors workers, police men, Aerobic Soccer Moms, NASCAR, Harley Davidson Riders, Aerobatics pilots, etc. A plug in like a diagnostics unit on a car would be located in a seam within the clothing and estimate thru calculation how much water input is needed for the human athlete, solder or professional. Some lying in a hospital could also be properly cared for during the nurse rounds. This idea also lends itself well to racehorses with blankets. The number of applications is truly endless.

The uniform or sportswear would be colored with thermo-chromic ink and conductive threads with either threads of nickel or stainless woven in monitoring the using the latest technologies in biometrics. Once sold in a large scale to multiple industries and sectors the price point would become quite inexpensive to manufacture and thus a high profit business, which might bring the textile industry back to the United States providing thousands of jobs in this new high tech sector of futuristic wearable technologies ushering a new wave of wearable computers.

Male And Female Pattern Baldness No Great Loss But Loss All The Same

Writen by Mick Burrows

In a person with a healthy, full head of hair, it is deemed normal to lose up to 50 hairs a day. People who are suffering from the onset of something called pattern baldness however, can lose up to 250 hairs a day and it affects males and females. Male pattern baldness is triggered by increased sensitivity to male hormones (androgens). It is usually a hereditary condition and is a gradual process. Genetic traits make hair follicles shrink, resulting in the actual density, or thickness of hair grown diminishing, so although the follicles are still alive, they are no longer able to perform their task. With female pattern baldness, unlike the male quivalent, it is not so readily accepted socially and in many cases it can have devastating effect on the sufferers emotional state and confidence. It is often linked to hormonal changes, following events such as the menopause, or as a result of stopping, or starting oral contraceptive pills. Childbirth is also a known factor. Hormone levels increase as the pregnancy begins and slows down the hair growth cycle. Hairs that should stop growing continue to grow beyond their usual life cycle. Often this means that the hair appears to grow thicker as more hairs are present than normal.

Other causes can be numerous and include stress, restriction of the blood supply, a poor nervous system and hormonal influences. With female pattern baldness, the hair loss is generally more uniform over the scalp than in the male counterpart, but also results from a complex chemical reaction when the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase converts the testosterone in the system into DHT or dihydrotestosterone. Female pattern baldness affects approximately one-third of all susceptible women, whereas the male strain appears to be slightly more common, affecting around 40 per cent. Medical science does not at present know exactly why some men with high testosterone levels (marked by heavy beards, an excess of body hair and deepness of voice) do not succumb to male pattern baldness, while others, often with lower testosterone levels, do. Nor is it understood why it only affects the hair follicles on top of the head and not those on the back and sides. Scientific updates however, are constantly being issued and there is optimism that a positive conclusion will eventually be drawn.

A native to India and other parts of Southeast Asia especially Indonesia, turmeric is integral to Asian cooking. A member of the rhizome family, besides imparting a yellow colour and a characteristic flavour to food, it has a long history of use in India Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine.

Health Benefits of Turmeric
Botanically known as Curcuma longa, derived from the Arabic name for kurkum plant, known as saffron, turmeric is often confused and substituted with the same. Totally unrelated to saffron, a member of ginger family, the root of the turmeric plant in its dried form is used as spice. Mildly aromatic with a pungent bittersweet flavor, it was called "Indian saffron" as its shares the deep yellow orange color of the saffron. Turmeric is used as a condiment, textile and culinary dye.

Turmeric is used extensively in Indian, Middle East, Moroccan, African and Southeast Asian cookery, especially in curries, vegetables, rice, fish and meat dishes to add color and flavor. For the traditional ayurvedics, turmeric is a very important herb. Considered a cleansing herb for the whole body, it gives energy and grants prosperity. The finger like stalk is scalded, dried and used for medicinal preparations. An excellent natural antibiotic, it strengthens digestion, prevents the formation of gas and helps to improve large intestinal flora.

It purifies the blood, aids digestion of protein, promotes proper metabolism in the body, correcting both, excess and deficiencies. It is used in treatment for fever, mild stomach upset, infection, arthritis, dysentery, jaundice and other liver problems. Ancient Chinese physicians used turmeric to treat chest congestion, menstrual discomforts and many more ailments. Turmeric may help to relieve carpel tunnel syndrome, joint inflammation and prevent cancer. Add a pinch or two of turmeric to warm milk to soothe respiratory aliments such as cough or asthma.

Sprinkle a bit of turmeric with honey (optional), on cuts, bruises, or scrapes after a thorough wash, as the anti bacterial action will prevent wound infections. One should be careful while using turmeric since its deep color can easily stain. Quickly wash the soiled area with water to avoid further staining. Turmeric powder should be kept in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark and dry place. Fresh turmeric rhizome should be kept in the refrigerator.

Kevin Pederson has been managing a number of natural home remedies websites which have information on home based natural cures and remedies for cold and cough and benefits of turmeric and other natural herbs.

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension Complication

Writen by Jennifer Bailey

The Complications associated with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension can lead to fatal consequences in patients afflicted by this progressive lung disorder. However, there is no reason for despair. The situation may be grave but a variety of treatments are now available, aiming at prevention or even curing of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension-related Complications.

A serious Complication may be blood clots. Blood clot formation where there is no need for it can turn fatal. If there are clots in the small arteries of the lungs then this can pose a threat by disturbing the already narrowed or blocked blood vessels, thereby terminating normal blood circulation to the lungs. This undesirable clotting or coagulation of blood can be remedied by the use of anti-coagulants. However, it must be remembered that anti-coagulants have their own risks and benefits, which need to be carefully considered by a doctor prior to administration.

Fluid build-up in the body may be another complication. Two kinds of edemas- pedal edema (fluid accumulation in legs) and ascites (fluid accumulation in abdomen) are among such Primary Pulmonary Hypertension Complications. Pulmonary edema may also develop as a complication, whereby the lungs fill with accumulated fluid. This may even prove to be fatal, as the accumulated fluid can hamper the proper exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the lungs. As medication for such edema, diuretics are helpful. A less-fluid, low-sodium diet may also manage the risks of such complications.

The enlargement of the heart's right ventricle, leading to its functional failure, is among the most serious of the Primary Pulmonary Hypertension Complications. This might even lead to a complete failure of the heart.

Several drug treatments come in aid of these complications- digoxin therapy, vasodilators, calcium channel blockers; endothelin receptor antagonists and oxygen therapies are carried out as treatment. It may be that a lung transplant proves a workable solution for the prevention or treatment of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension Complications.

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension provides detailed information about primary pulmonary hypertension, cause of primary pulmonary hypertension, primary pulmonary hypertension attorney, primary pulmonary hypertension complication and more. Discount Fish Oil The Facts

Writen by John Gibb

Question: What are fish oil's benefits?

Answer: Leading authorities on the subject of nutrition are now emphasizing the benefits of including fish oil in your diet. It is generally considered to be one of the most often sought-after remedies when it comes to improving physical performance, treating obesity, and improving mental focus. Clearly, the benefits of this oil can be astounding to your health. Wide-ranged benefits that include helping your body both physically and mentally make discount fish oil a substance that can greatly affect your life for the positive in a multitude of ways.

Question: What makes fish oil work on these problems the way that it does?

Answer: There are many reasons fish oil is good for your health. For one, the scientific world generally agrees that the Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish oil known as EPA and DHA promote a healthy vascular system. Also, the more fish oil absorbed by your body, the more "good" eicosanoids your body will release. Eicosanoids are a type of hormone found in the body, and there are both "good" and "bad" eicosanoids. Fish oil helps to balance these levels, and in turn aids in such things as heart performance.

Studies have confirmed that for these reasons, fish oil can help to protect you from heart disease. A study done at Harvard University resulted in a conclusion that taking discount fish oil once a week lowered your chance of death from heart disease by 34 percent.

Fish oil has also been studied for its help with bipolar disorder. Another Harvard study showed that the disorder could be treated with fish oil with remarkable success.

Question: What should I look for to get the best discount fish oil out there?

Answer: The purity of the fish oil you are taking is a key factor in its benefits for your health. To make pharmaceutical-grade fish oil, you're required to put the raw product through substantial purification processes. 100 gallons of health-food grade fish oil results in merely one gallon of pharmaceutical grade fish oil. This pharmaceutical grade oil possesses about twice the EPA and DHA as the standard health-food grade fish oil.

Asthma Attacks What You Can Do

Writen by Daniel Lanicek

When a person with asthma experiences a sudden worsening of his or her asthma symptoms it is called an asthma attack. During an asthma attack, the smooth muscles around the bronchial tubes in the lungs contract, making the airway openings more narrow. Less air can flow through these openings and inflammation of the lungs is a result. This inflammation quickly increases and the airways become more swollen. Mucus production by the cells in the airways increases more than usual and this narrows the airways even further. These changes to the airways cause the symptoms of asthma, notably wheezing and difficulty in breathing.

When you are with someone who is having an asthma attack there are things you can do to help them. First of all you should remove the victim from the cause of the asthma attack. This will be a certain allergen such as pollen in the air or on the skin, smoke, or other strong odors. Keep the victim calm, comfortable, and sitting upright.

If the asthma attack victim has not already used a rescue inhaler, ask the person if he or she has an inhaler and assist the victim with the inhaler, if necessary. A rescue inhaler is the best first aid for asthma attacks. It is important that you use the rescue inhaler prescribed to the asthma attack victim and not use someone else's inhaler.

In the event that there is no rescue inhaler to use or if the asthma symptoms do not improve after administering the inhaler, you can also use steam to help the victim. Run very hot water from a faucet and have the person inhale the steam being careful not to touch the scalding water. Help the victim focus on their breathing and pucker their lips when he or she exhales.

If an asthma attack is severe then it may be possible that all of the preceding steps will not decrease the asthma symptoms. In this event, or when a rescue inhaler is not present, you may need to call for emergency medical help. The information given here is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment. If someone you know or love has asthma it is important to learn all you can about this condition so that you can help the person in the event of an asthma attack.

Daniel Lanicek is an life long sufferer of asthma on a mission to heighten world awareness of asthma. Over 14 million people in the United States alone suffer from asthma and there are ways you can help. Learn more about asthma at Asthma Explained.

Buying A Bowflex

Writen by Mike Singh

If you are really serious about your weight training, then you will need to train consistently 5-6 days a week. A good workout routine will include a wide range of exercises, and you will rotate through a variety of different equipment. It is critical that to reduce your commute time to your gym so that you can stay on top of your demanding routine.

It is true that there are a lot more gyms around today than there were in the past, and also that they have suited their opening hours to the needs of their customers. This means that they are open early in the morning and late in the evenings so that people with jobs and busy work schedules can still fit in their gym time. However, for many people who do not live near a gym, or need to be at home for some commitment, the only answer is to have some weight training equipment for use, at your home.

There are literally hundreds of weight training and exercise machines available for you. These will include weights, bikes, running and rowing machines and multipurpose machines. However, unless you have a very large basement or some other space to put all these machines, you will most likely want to have a machine that allows you to do all of your exercises, and a complete routine, on the one machine.

The Bowflex is one piece of equipment that is built for this purpose. It is very versatile. You will be able to do the most demanding exercises, without ever having to make that trip down to the gym. It is also worth remembering that gym membership can be very expensive. While bowflex machines do represent a significant investment at the beginning, if you really use it, and get good use out of your bowflex, then it will all be worthwhile as you will save money on gym memberships and other expenses that you would have had to incur anyway. You can shop around for good deals on a bowflex online, and also check out how much they are going for next time you see one on an infomercial.

If you are considering purchasing one then it will be important for you to know that Bowflex has had some safety issues in the past. The company conducted a voluntary recall of 800,000 machines in 2004 and also issued safety instructions and repair kits to customers. Hopefully they have taken care of this in their new machines but if you are buying an old one, it is something you will have to consider.

Preworkout Nutrition For Rookies

Writen by Zach Bashore

If you wnat to build muscle, you have to train hard. What you eat before your workout dramatically influences the amount of energy you have to be able to train as hard as you possibly can. Learning what to eat and at what times will help you become a better bodybuilder. This article will cover these things and will also discuss the controversy of whether or not you should consume a meal before cardiovascular exercise.

Exercise causes significant changes to the metabolic environment of muscle tissue. Exercise also causes an increased blood flow to working muscles. These changes allow for catabolism during exercise and anabolism afterwards. Because of these changes, certain pre-workout nutritional strategies need to be considered to keep your body in an anabolic state and to ensure that your body is getting enough energy throughout your training session.

Intensity of your workout will help determine what is best to eat. High intensity exercise puts high demand on glycogen stores. This is why a meal rich in complex carbohydrates and protein, eaten fifteen to fourty-five minutes before training is crucial. Protein also increases blood flow to certain muscles of the body and the availability of amino acids is often the decisive factor in the body`s ability to create protein synthesis during training.

Another issue being debated by bodybuilders is whether it`s best to do cardiovascular exercise on an empty stomach or if you should eat a meal prior to doing cardio exercise. One person will say it`s best to do cardio in the morning on an empty stomach if you want to lose fat while another person tells you that idea is stupid because doing so will cause your body to be in an extreme catabolic state, making you lose muscle mass at an alarming rate. So which person is right? I`ve tried both methods and with my experience and body type, it is best for me to eat a regular meal fifteen to fourty-five minutes prior to cardiovascular exercise.

This article was written for educational purposes only and theory based on my own personal opinion. You should never follow any person`s advice word for word and believe that their ways are the finished product. Always keep yourself educated and if an idea from one article doesn`t work for you, read another one on the same topic until you find what works best for you. Until next time, later.

Diabetes Supplies

Writen by Josh Riverside

Diabetes is a lifelong disease and can affect any one at any age or time. For many years this was considered to be a life-threatening disease, as there was no remedy. With improvements in research many therapies have been developed. The first step in controlling diabetes is to know that your blood sugar levels are high, and to check this a number of tools have been developed. It used to be that regular blood tests were the only way to check sugar levels, but advances in blood-testing technology help you check your sugar level anywhere and anytime.

Self-test kits are available in stores. These self-test kits come in the form of test strips and blood glucose meters. You only have to put a drop of blood on the test strip and then place the strip into the blood glucose meter. The meter makes the calculations, and within no time you can know your sugar level. There are two types of meters: one shows a color change and the other gives a digital display of the reading. To prick your finger to get a drop of blood you will need to use a lancet. These lancets usually come along with the unit itself. These are not interchangeable from one unit to the other. The cost of the individual units may vary according to the brand, between $65 and $70.

While buying blood glucose meters you have various options. You could choose one that has a built-in memory to help you monitor your sugar levels over time. Others have a voice system, which takes you through the steps involved. Still others have a siphon action test strip, which helps in getting the blood onto the strip. Some of the brands are the one-touch ultra, the accu-check, the freestyle and the one-touch sure-step. In order to help you take your insulin dose there are a number of insulin delivery systems, like insulin pumps, insulin infusers, pen injectors, jet injectors and the normal syringe. The pumps cost from $3,500-$5,000 while the pen injectors may range from $45-$60. The jet injectors could be purchased for around $1,000.

While using these self-test kits you should be very accurate. You should calibrate your reading immediately so that you can compare it at the doctors office. You should check your strips and meter accurately. In order to be thorough with the technique, be sure to read the manual accompanying the unit. And in case of further query, you can always call the manufacturer of the device.

Buying Discount Vitamins

Writen by David Chandler

There are a number of ways that you can find discount vitamins. The most common is to wait until your favorite vitamin store has a sale but this can be a rather difficult way to get a discount vitamin. The problem is mainly due to the discount time. Most discount vitamin offers only have a limited amount of stock available and it is a case of first-come, first-served. The other issue with trying to get these discount vitamin offers is that they are strictly time limited and again, you may miss out unless you find out about the sale in advance.

A large number of stores produce coupons that offer discount vitamin purchases. These coupons are often distributed in newspapers and magazines - the Sunday newspapers are so full of coupons that it may be time-consuming looking for the discount vitamin offers but it is worth the effort. You may find that some of these coupons do not give an instant discount vitamin purchase but you can claim the appropriate money back through a rebate system. Beware that some of these rebated discount vitamin offers require you to purchase additional equipment or accessories to qualify for them.

One extremely good source for discount vitamin offers is look for bulk purchases. This is an extremely underestimated resource, as many people do not actually understand what a bulk purchase discount vitamin really is. In all honesty, you are likely to get a better discount vitamin offer if you opt for a bulk purchase from your local outlet. This is because the bulk purchases offer the best discount vitamin prices possible. This is especially the case for vitamins that you may want to take on an ongoing basis. Vitamin C, for example, is a great choice to buy in bulk and obtain a discount vitamin price.

It is extremely important, however, to ensure that the bulk discount vitamin purchases do not include vitamins that may have an expiration date that could be exceeded before they are all consumed. Do not be tempted to purchase bulk amounts of vitamins simply to obtain a discount vitamin price unless you are sure that you can consume all of the vitamins within the expiration dates given. One of the major mistakes that people make when looking for a discount vitamin is to overlook the expiration date. There may not be any danger if the discount vitamins are a few days past their sell by date but it is not worth the risk just to save a few pennies.

Ingrown Toe Nails Medical Treatment

Writen by Gregory Mburu

Medical Care:

Treatment options depend on the stage of ingrown toenails, medically known as onychocryptosis.

Stage 1 can be managed by recommending shoes with a comfortable wide toe box or open-toed shoes. Instruct the patient's parents to cut the nail straight across and avoid cutting back the lateral margins. The nail edge should extend past the tissue.

Stage 2 can be treated by stretching the soft tissue away from the side of the nail, elevating the offending edge of nail from the soft tissue, and placing a small pledget of cotton under the nail edge to lift it back into the nail grove. Instruct patients with stage 2 ingrown nails on how to perform this treatment. Parents should also be instructed to have the child rest, keep the foot elevated, and use warm soaks.

Stage 3 should be treated by removing the nail margin as described in "Surgical Care." Chronic ingrown toenails may require matrix ablation.

Surgical Care:

Stage 3 ingrown nails require avulsion of the lateral border of the nail plate with sharp excision of the hypertrophic granulation tissue. If avulsion has been unsuccessful in the past, partial or total ablation of the nail plate chemically, surgically, or via laser may be indicated. Prepare the digit with Betadine or alcohol if the patient is iodine allergic. Perform a digital block with 2% lidocaine without epinephrine. Lift the nail off of the nail matrix bluntly all the way back to approximately one eighth of an inch under the proximal nail fold. Insert a scissors blade and cut the nail back to the proximal nail fold. Remove the free portion of the nail.

Protuberant granulation tissue can be removed sharply or treated with silver nitrate. Bleeding, if any, is controlled with pressure. Antibiotic ointment and clean dressing should be applied.

Consultations:

Consult a podiatrist for routine follow-up care or for patients in whom primary avulsion therapy has been unsuccessful. Close follow-up care with an orthopedist is required if inflammatory osteophytic changes are observed or if evidence of osteomyelitis is present.

Follow-up with a primary care physician is indicated for any type of immunosuppression, including diabetes mellitus.

Diet: No dietary limitations are required.

Activity: Rest, keep the extremity elevated, soak the affected nail in warm water, and maintain limited weight bearing until healing has taken place.

Beriberi Finding The Cause And Cure

Writen by Gabe Mirkin, M.D.

From 1600 to 1920, one of the most common causes of death in North America was beriberi. Most people don't even know what it is because it is extremely rare today, but the detective work to find the cause and cure spanned many centuries and countries.

Beriberi is a disease in which people first lose feeling in their fingers and feet followed by progressive weakness, heart failure and death. The people in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) called it beri, the Singhalese word for weakness and it later became known in European circles as beriberi, which means weakness-weakness. In 1850, doctors in England reported that beriberi was extremely common in rich Asians and very rare in Asians who were very poor, but it wasn't until forty years later that the first reports came out asking if beriberi could be caused by a nutritional deficiency that occurred in the rich and not in the poor. The only nutrient that poor Asians got that the rich didn't get was in rice husks. The rich ate vast amounts of soft tasty white rice, while the poor couldn't afford the refined rice so they had to eat the disgusting brown rice.

In the early 1800s, Japanese doctors noted that almost all their sailors came down with beriberi. In 1887, a Japanese doctor named Takaki reported that he cured beriberi by serving the sailors powdered milk and meat. The major breakthrough came when the Dutch physician, Eijkman, reported that he cured beriberi by feeding people rice husks that are thrown away be the very rich who were the only ones who could afford to throw away food. In 1912 Casimir Funk, a Polish biochemist, prepared crude extracts of rice husks that cured beriberi. All these clues and it still took hundreds of years for doctors to find the cause and cure for a very common disease. In 1934 Robert Williams of the University of Texas prepared thiamine (vitamin B1) powder in large quantities. Nobody in North American hears of beriberi any more, because all refined flours now have thiamine added back after it is removed in the milling process.

Bottomline Kitchen Tips For Arthritis Sufferers

Writen by Nathan Wei

First of all, let's make it easier on you in the kitchen. Let's face it… cooking a meal that's good for you from a nutrition point of you is difficult when you hurt.

Here are a few simple tips to help you:

• When you're preparing your food, pull up a high barstool and sit down to chop, mix, or stir, instead of standing at the counter.

• Use cooking utensils with built-up or padded handles to help you with grip.

• Use an apron with pockets to carry things you can use instead of having to make more frequent trips.

• Use the microwave to heat up leftovers or defrost frozen vegetables.

• Consider using pre-cut vegetables, fruits, and meats.

• Use a crock pot. By putting meat, poultry, pre-sliced vegetables along with broth and spices you can use a crock pot to create a hot nutritious meal- with only one pot to clean afterwards!

• Prepare large batches of food at one time and refrigerate or freeze the leftovers for later.

And as far as the types of foods, here are the important nutrients to consider…

• Vitamin C. Studies have shown that vitamin C may slow progression of osteoarthritis. Vitamin C can be found in citrus fruits and juices as well as berries.

• Vitamin D. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis may benefit from immunomodulatory effects of this vitamin. Vitamin D also is important in preserving healthy bone mass. Vitamin D can be found in dairy products, cereals, and eggs.

• Omega-3 fatty acids. This anti-oxidant has been shown to reduce inflammation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Omega-3 is found in cold water fish such as salmon and mackerel.

• Gamma-linoleic acid. GLA is found in foods like flaxseed and carry the same potent anti-oxidant effect as foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids.

Bottom line: Cooking with arthritis can be healthy and shouldn't hurt!

History Of Electronic Medical Records

Writen by Kent Pinkerton

In the 1960s, a physician named Lawrence L. Weed first described the concept of computerized or electronic medical records. Weed described a system to automate and reorganize patient medical records to enhance their utilization and thereby lead to improved patient care.

Weed's work formed the basis of the PROMIS project at the University of Vermont, a collaborative effort between physicians and information technology experts started in 1967 to develop an automated electronic medical record system. The project's objectives were to develop a system that would provide timely and sequential patient data to the physician, and enable the rapid collection of data for epidemiological studies, medical audits and business audits. The group's efforts led to the development of the problem-oriented medical record, or POMR. Also, in the 1960s, the Mayo Clinic began developing electronic medical record systems.

In 1970, the POMR was used in a medical ward of the Medical Center Hospital of Vermont for the first time. At this time, touchscreen technology had been incorporated into data entry procedures. Over the next few years, drug information elements were added to the core program, allowing physicians to check for drug actions, dosages, side effects, allergies and interactions. At the same time, diagnostic and treatment plans for over 600 common medical problems were devised.

During the 1970s and 1980s, several electronic medical record systems were developed and further refined by various academic and research institutions. The Technicon system was hospital-based, and Harvard's COSTAR system had records for ambulatory care. The HELP system and Duke's 'The Medical Record' are examples of early in-patient care systems. Indiana's Regenstrief record was one of the earliest combined in-patient and outpatient systems.

With advancements in computer and diagnostic applications during the 1990s, electronic medical record systems became increasingly complex and more widely used by practices. In the 21st century, more and more practices are implementing electronic medical records.

Electronic Medical Records provides detailed information on Electronic Medical Records, Electronic Medical Record Software, Electronic Medical Record Systems, Electronic Medical Record Companies and more. Electronic Medical Records is affiliated with HIPAA Laws.

See How Trampolines Can Be Part Of Any Exercise Program

Writen by Paul Article

When the trampoline was invented by a young boy intrigued by the ability of aerialists to bounce in a net and perform artistic maneuvers while they did so, it literally became the "springboard" for a whole new sport.

George Nissen, who was a tumbler and gymnast himself, took the sports to a whole new height by putting them on canvas strung in a metal frame. Over the years, the canvas has been replaced by nylon weave, and the frames are made lighter and more stable. And the sport has evolved to incorporate elements of gymnastics, ballet, and even diving.

Trampolines first became available to the public through entertainment venues where you paid for a ticket to bounce around for a specified time. Eventually, they found their way into schools, then gyms, then into organized associations as a real, and challenging competitive sport.

While the world championships allow for a variety of competitions, including team events, and synchronized trampoline routines where two people perform on separate equipment, the Olympics at this time, recognizes only the individual skills event.

A set of ten skills must be performed in two voluntary qualifying routines, and in the final routine for the eight qualifying competitors. These skills may include such maneuvers as front and back somersaults, with or without a twist.

Competitors must submit a card listing the elements of the first qualifying voluntary routine, no less than 48 hours before competition starts. The routine must then be performed with the same elements, and in the same order as listed.

In the second qualifying round and the finals, competitors are free to vary the order, and type of skills, which allows the opportunity to increase the routine's degree of difficulty.

A total of nine judges will sit for each competition: a chair, an assistant chair, two judges who will mark only the degree of difficulty, and five who will mark only the execution of the routine.

Bladder Infection Medication

Writen by Eddie Tobey

Bladder infections are treated with antibacterial drugs, and the choice of medication and the duration of treatment depend upon the patient's past medical history and the results of the urine test, which clearly identifies the problem-causing bacteria. The sensitivity test is also useful in helping the physician select the best drug for the condition.

Some of the commonly used drugs to treat regular or uncomplicated bladder infections are: trimethoprim; trimethoprim/ sulfamethoxazole; amoxicillin; nitrofurantoin and ampicillin. All these drugs are sold under various brand names in the market and are only available with a doctor's prescription. Self-medication is not advised.

Very often, bladder infections can be cured within 2-3 days of treatment if the infection is not too severe or complicated. However, most doctors advise that these antibiotics be taken for a week or two to make sure that the infection has been completely cured so that there are no chances of it recurring. However, single-dose treatments may not be suggested for certain patients who show signs of kidney infection or who have delayed the treatment by not taking immediate action. People who have diabetes or structural abnormalities, and men with prostrate infections, are also advised against single-dose treatments. Such patients need longer treatment, as do patients with infections caused by mycoplasma or chlamydia.

Chronically ill patients with kidney infections have to be hospitalized until they can start to take fluids and the recommended drugs on their own. Kidney infections generally require several weeks of antibiotic treatment. Medical researchers have found that a 2-week therapy with antibiotics was as effective as 6 weeks of treatment with the same drug in women with kidney infections (that did not involve an obstruction or nervous system disorder). In most such cases, kidney infections usually do not lead to kidney damage or failure unless they go completely untreated.

Various drugs are available to provide relief from pain associated with bladder infections. A heating pad and a warm bath may usually provide some relief. Most doctors suggest that drinking plenty of water helps cleanse the urinary tract of bacteria, and that coffee, alcohol and spicy food is best avoided during illness.

Cure Against Depression And Low Self Confidence

Writen by Ingela Berger

Depression strikes most of us and it can make us paralysed. It is essential that we do not let it get too much influence on our lives.

Cure against depression

Practice this cure on a day off.

* Have a healthy and balanced breakfast in your dressing gown.

* Take a warm shower or sauna.

* Rub your skin with body lotion and your feet with foot creme.

* Put on some comfortable clothes.

* Go for a long walk.

* When you come back home, make yourself a cup of hot tea on St. John's Wort, rosemary or lavender.

* Make yourself comfortable in your favourite armchair.

* Read a good book or magazine.

* Listen to your favourite music. (It should be cheerful)

* Make sure you are warm. Slippers and a blanket may come handy.

* Be sure to have fresh air in the room. Take some deep breaths to fill your lungs.

Great self confidence can be learned

You can learn how to be confident about who you are and what you can do. You can learn how to tolerate uncertainty and be confident with not knowing what is going to happen.

Some tips:

* Write down your positive achievements, all that you can remember; educations, jobs, loves and relationships (even if they ended, you still achieved them), friendships, children, driving licence... Look at what you already have and realize you have done rather well.

* Write down good things that others have said about you. Read through old documents from former employers or teachers that state all your strong sides. Maybe you forgot you had them?

* Make plans. Ask yourself what can be done. What can you change to make things better? Write down precise goals and write a step-by-step plan on how you intend to achieve your goals.

*Decision. Make a decision that tomorrow you will start dealing with the first step of your plan.

When you read what you have written you will realize that you have grown and developed over the years. That also means that you can grow and develop further.

Dyslexia Symptoms

Writen by Peter Emerson

A common indication of a dyslexic child is that their achievements are disproportionate with their ability, meaning that a child appears to be average or intelligent when they talk but they have difficulty in spelling, and struggle to read and understand.

Dyslexia symptoms might vary depending on the age group the child belongs to. Children in pre-school often have problems telling stories in proper sequence, and also have difficulty learning numbers, alphabets, colors and shapes. They may have problems communicating with peers. Children in grades 1 through 4 tend to make mistakes and spell in reverse ("but" for "tub"). They even get confused with mathematic signs (+, -, =, etc.), hold pencils awkwardly, learn new skills slowly, and memorize without really understanding. Children in grades 5 through 8 usually read below their grade level, have poor handwriting, and avoid reading and writing. Some dyslexic children have difficulty recalling facts and making friends.

One of the most common symptoms of dyslexia is the reversal of letters and numbers

Dyslexic people tend to confuse letters and numbers -- for example b and d or 15 and 51 -- while reading or writing. They even sometimes read or write in reverse fashion like "pat" for "tap" or "bat" for "tab", or 21 for 12. They read very slowly and hesitantly and may repeat lines twice or skip reading a few lines. In general a dyslexic child may attend school regularly, may be average or even bright, and accomplished in creative activities, while also having difficulty in reading, writing or coping with mathematics. Dyslexic people often spell words as they are pronounced. For example please is spelled "pleeze" and knew is spelled "new."

Some of the other common symptoms of dyslexia are problems tying shoelaces, stuttering, and difficulty remembering months and week days in sequence. Ohter signs include getting confused with directions, mispronouncing words, being unable to follow 2-3 instructions at a time, and having difficulty with organization.

The symptoms may not be identical in various cases and signs described above may not be a complete list of symptoms. If one believes that a particular person may be dyslexic, he or she may seek professional advice and conduct tests for the condition.

Scales Dont Lie But They Dont Tell You Everything Either

Writen by Lee Smith

The scale: One of man's most popular inventions…

But it could be your worst enemy when it comes to weight loss. Here's why:

Your scale tells you one thing and one thing only. It tells you how much you weigh. It doesn't tell you how much bodyfat you're carrying and it certainly doesn't tell you how much fat you burned during yesterday's weight training workout.

Stepping on a scale every morning is a surefire way to depression because your body composition constantly changes. If you aren't on a scheduled eating plan and eating sporadically during the day, your body composition WILL change. Remember, the scale will only tell you how much you weight, not how much fat you've lost.

In order to determine how much fat you've lost, I recommend getting an actual bodyfat test done by a fitness professional or if you can find it, get a body fat test done with underwater weighing.

Under water body fat testing is more effective because of one reason - fat floats. As you're underwater, your bodyfat will float as you sink allowing you to get a very accurate reading since your lean mass is what's being weighed.

Technology is catching up fast, however. Scales that can measure your bodyfat by sending an electric current through you body and doing a lot of calculations.

I won't deny, I've stepped on one immediately after getting my bodyfat measured and the scale was pretty darn close. Not 100% accurate - but rarely is anything.

I think I'll stick with my favorite method of measuring bodyfat - skinfold caliper measurements. Lightly pinch and "click".

If you're working with a personal trainer, make sure he's taking your bodyfat measurements at least every 3-4 weeks so you can check your progress. That way you'll have a good indication of whether you're losing fat and gaining muscle.

Scales might tell you if you're losing weight, but bodyfat is a different story all together. If you're not working with a trainer, make it a point to get your bodyfat measured.

Measuring your bodyfat is a surefire way to make sure you're staying on track, building muscle, and making sure you're losing the weight you want to lose (bodyfat, not muscle).

Primary Pulmonary Hypertension Natural Treatment

Writen by Jennifer Bailey

The unpleasant truth is that there is no cure for Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. The Treatments administered help relieve the symptoms and retard progress of the disease. The objective of Treatments is keeping the complications involved with the condition at bay.

The administration of oxygen helps relieve difficulty in breathing in some cases. Furthermore, this relaxes the muscles in the arteries of the lungs. This lowers the pressures built up in the pulmonary arteries.

The use of diuretics helps get rid of excess fluid accumulated. Lasix is an example. However, it must be remembered that these drugs must be used with caution, so that the patient does not get too dehydrated. If the patient gets too dehydrated then the poorly functioning right ventricle will be unable to pump even a little blood to the lungs, leading to the patient having serious problems with oxygenation.

The use of calcium channel blockers like nifedipine may relax the muscles in the blood vessel walls. This can prove helpful in the functioning of the right side of the heart. However, they may decrease the blood pressure induced in the entire cardiovascular system, which is not quite easily tolerated.

Other treatments include:

Using prostacycline, an investigational drug, is effective in dilating blood vessels of the lungs and decreasing resistance to blood flow.

Inhaling nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels in the lungs but has no effect on the blood vessels of the rest of the body. Sildrafil is another investigational drug used alongside nitric oxide inhalation treatment.

Usage of Bosentan, a new investigational drug, especially in cases related to congenital heart disease.

Alongside treatments there must be regular checkups by a doctor, with careful attention towards monitoring changes in overall health and scrutinizing and monitoring reports thereof.

The patient ought to refrain from sports and heavy work and activity, and should get adequate rest. It must be ensured that the therapy undergone by the patient is on a regular, routine basis.

How To Get Leaner Faster

Writen by Shawn LeBrun

Although I feel the best approach to losing fat is a long term one, there are some simple things you can do to drop fat quickly.

You primarily do it by increasing the amount, duration, and/or intensity of your cardio sessions while slowly decreasing your calorie intake.

If you try and shed fat too fast, whatever you did to lose it will not be permanent and you'll more than likely end up gaining the weight back.

The best way to lose any amount of fat quickly is to focus on creating more of a calorie deficit in which your body is forced to burn more fat for energy.

This is primarily achieved by slowly cutting your calorie intake and slowly increasing your cardio input. Notice how I put "slowly" in front of both.

If you start reducing calories too quick, you'll force your body into "starvation mode" in which it starts holding onto stored body fat instead of burning it for energy. And if you start doing too much cardio too soon, you'll run the risk of overtraining or getting injured.

What about weight training? The weight training remains a constant in this equation. It has little to do with losing fat fast.

In fact, you may want to lessen the weight training the next few weeks and instead focus more on the cardio, which will have more of an impact on the fat burning.

Bottom line, to lose any amount of fat fast, you have to burn more calories than you consume.

The best way to do this is by dropping your daily calorie intake while increasing your daily cardio output.

The first week, start getting rid of extras that you may eat, like dressings, oils, butter, sugars, syrups, and desserts.

Then the next week, reduce your calories again by 150-200 calories. This slow, methodical drop in calories will not trigger "starvation mode" in which your body will start holding onto fat.

Also, you'll want to start upping the amount and/or intensity of your cardio. If you're doing 2 or 3 sessions of cardio a week, add another session. If you're already doing 4 or 5, then increase your intensity more so than your time.

The combo of slowly dropping your daily calories while also increasing the intensity and amount of your cardio will get you in a fat-burning stage.

Then, continue on with this approach and soon you'll be staring in the mirror at a leaner, more muscular you.

Yoga And Christianity A Conflict

Writen by Paul Jerard

Being a practicing Christian myself, there are very few things in Yoga that conflict with Christianity. Some critics argue that Yoga and Christianity cannot co-exist, and yet we know that Yoga is not a religion.

However, that depends on your opinion. Recently, I was reading about someone who claims Kundalini is "new age witchcraft." Sorry to say, another person recently stated, "Good Christians should avoid the devil's exercise," in reference to Yoga.

Are the Salem witch trials still so close to our hearts? These claims are interesting because ministers and priests have been practicing meditation for centuries, without any complaints.

I suppose, if someone devoted enough time to meditating on bad thoughts, meditation would be a bad experience.

To be honest, it depends upon what you meditate about; and in truth, within some schools of Yoga, Hinduism, or Buddhism is taught. For me, this has always been a conflict, as I love Yoga, but have no desire to change my faith.

The many teachings of Yoga and meditation, are non-sectarian. Now, if Yoga were a religion, which would it be? The principles of Yoga are universal.

The Yamas and Niyamas are similar, in principle, to the Ten Commandments, but as a Christian you have the right to pick and choose what you want from Yoga. You also have the right to avoid sectarian ashrams.

Yoga practice, and meditation, give many Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and Moslems, a closer connection to God, but there will always be someone who feels tempted to change their faith.

Let's be honest, the people who worry about a sudden change of faith are, for the most part, rooted in two distinct camps of thought.

1. Someone who is on the fence about their own religion and not quite sure where they really stand.

2. Severe intolerance of any idea that is new or might result in opening the mind.

Let's stop the intolerance now. When you are driving in your car, waiting in line, or come face-to-face with someone who is different from you, please set an example for your children and give the other person a break.
