The Basics Of Avian Flu

Writen by Nitu Kumar

Bird flu or avian flu is an influenza virus type that normally infects birds. However, it can also infect other animals including pigs. Wild birds are natural hosts to the virus and normally don't get sick from it. But domestic animals such as chickens and turkeys could be severely affected. Humans, on the other hand, can be infected with influenza types A, B, and C.

Genetic changes and sharing can occur under certain circumstances. This could happen in crowded conditions where poultry, pigs, and people live in close quarters. This change could allow a virus to turn into more infectious to humans. This could also mean that the virus can more easily transmitted from person to person. This is precisely when a pandemic could break out.

The avian flu's jump to humans was first detected in 1997. Though there have been around 60 human deaths reported, they have been due to transmission from animals to humans. Migratory birds have been detected with the virus and these cannot be caught and killed - these birds have alreadd carried the virus to Europe and Africa. It is difficult to predict when the pandemic could break out - It all depends on when that genetic shift (from birds to humans) takes place.

For now, there has been no detection of this virus in the U.S. It is however possible for travelers to be infected, but most of cases in humans have been in those with closer contact to birds than a casual traveler has. Since the infection occurs via fecal-oral route, people are advised to reduce their risk while traveling by avoiding bird markets, zoos, and areas in parks, where there could be high concentrations of bird feces.

Countries that are the most vulnerable to this flu are Indonesia, Vietnam, and Cambodia, due to their high concentration of bird markets. Other areas include Thailand, China (south and north), Tibet, Kazakhstan, Russia and Mongolia.

Symptoms of bird flu in humans have ranged from typical flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, muscle aches) to eye infections and pneumonia. If you feel you've been exposed, there are a couple of treatment recommendations available today that you may want to discuss with your doctor. Until these are tested in a pandemic, however, their true efficacy is unknown. There are currently no vaccines available, but many companies are working on them.

More information on Avian Flu and preventive measures can be had from Avian Flu Protection.

Psoriasis

Writen by Jimmy Sturo

Psoriasis is a significant problem for dermatologists in the US. Over 7 million people suffer from this chronic skin condition and it affects both women and men of all ages.

Recent research indicates that Psoriasis may be caused by liver dysfunction and may also be related to immune system functions. Generally patches of inflamed red skin called plaques characterize symptoms. While these are the most visible symptoms Psoriasis causes significant discomfort due to pain, itching, limited joint mobility and depending on the affected area, it may also cause emotional distress.

Human blood contains T-cells, which normally protect the body against disease. Research indicates that in Psoriasis victims these T-cells are over-active and become responsible for excessive skin cell reproduction resulting in the plaques.

Symptomatic treatment of this disease results in destroying the excessive skin production caused by malfunctioning T-Cells. This is done by use of Ultra Violet light, which can destroy these excessive growths. The process of destroying these skin cells is called Apoptosis and is included by many doctors as a treatment option.

Many alternative therapies are also available and widely publicized. These include the use of Dead Sea salts and soaps with high salt content to purging liver treatments. None of these have been proven conclusively effective in removing the symptoms entirely. Because of the chronic nature of this condition and its often painful symptoms, patients often tire of non medical intervention and seek help from doctors.

Phototherapy treatments for Psoriasis can be done using UVB and UVA light. For most mild to moderate cases doctors generally elect to use UVB Narrow Band Spectrum treatments. Current knowledge of these treatments suggests that these Narrow Band UVB (NBUVB) treatments have better results than Broad Band treatment options.

When UVA light is used, doctors include topical and oral administration of a drug called Psoralen. This drug improves skin sensitivity to UVA light and improves the effectiveness of the treatments. While the disease may not be entirely curable, such treatments provide significant symptomatic relief to patients suffering from Psoriasis.

Chair Yoga Case Study Relief Of Asthma Symptoms

Writen by Mark Franklin

After teaching chair yoga for several years Liz Franklin can testify that it appropriate for almost anyone, even if they are feeling the effects of aging or have physical limitations. It is not for hard-bodied 20-somethings that can twist themselves into poses that look impossible – the only prerequisite is that you can sit in a chair, including a wheelchair.

What better way to illustrate how chair yoga has benefited those unable to attend a traditional yoga class than to tell it in their own words?

Hi! I'm Sandy Rabinoff. I'm a 71 year-old grandmother and collection agent. I have been practicing chair yoga for nearly three years. I had seen an article in the Kansas City paper one Sunday and it sparked my interest about the program.

I had taken "regular" yoga classes and enjoyed them but was having trouble keeping up with the class due to recent knee surgery. The instructor wasn't responsive to my needs and I was frustrated. When I read about chair yoga I thought, "This is made for me!" I called and got enrolled in the evening class. I was so excited about starting the class. From the moment I first talked with Liz I felt that this was my yoga. The way I felt after my first class was so heavenly that I was hooked. I have been attending class regularly ever since!

I have asthma and my lung capacity has dramatically improved. My doctor noticed the change and told me to keep doing yoga. The class has also made a dramatic difference in my flexibility, especially the knee I had replaced. I doubt I would have the range of motion and flexibility I do without my weekly class.

This past year has been filled with incredible stress in my personal life. Chair yoga has made all the difference in how I have handled that stress. I have learned coping strategies and taken them home with me and incorporated them into my daily life. I have learned how to use yoga to calm myself in times of stress and turmoil.

Quit thinking about taking a (chair yoga) class and come try this. You must experience this first hand. If you can't come to a class, buy (some) videos. You will thank yourself when you experience the difference in your mental state and find your own place of serenity. Flexibility is an added bonus that comes with time. Chair yoga is unique – there is nothing else like it!

Mark Franklin enjoys telling people about Liz Franklin's Yoga In Chairs(r) because he knows it is helping people live healthier, happier, and longer lives. If you want to find out about her special style of chair yoga, visit http://www.yogainchairs.com.

Muscle Cramps Amp Running Cramps Is Stretching A Good Treatment

Writen by Paul Newland

Stretching is an ideal way to treat a cramp . . . BUT NOT ON ITS OWN.

If you try and stretch a cramp a soon as you get one you seriously risk damaging the muscle – and that means longer recovery times and weaker muscles that are more likely to fatigue and cramp in the future.

Basically, when a muscle goes into a cramp, it's an all or nothing thing, which means that once the cramp has started, the muscle will continue with the contraction until it is finished. If you try and stretch it out while it is trying to contract you could very easily tear muscle fibres and set yourself up for more injury.

This is exactly what happened to me – I'd get a calf cramp while I was running, I'd stretch it out and limp home, rest up a few days and go out and do it all over again.

Once I figured out how to stop the cramping – and you'd be amazed how easy it really is – I discovered I had eliminated one problem and created a new one.

In my case it was calf strain and every time I tried to increase the pace beyond 60% I'd get a pain in the calf that force me to a walk.

And fixing the calf strain and getting the calf muscle back to 100% took longer to fix than the calf cramps.

If you suffer a calf cramp running, what you need to do first is help the muscle finish its contraction and re-establish the blood flow . . . and that means squeezing and pumping the muscle with your hands – in much the same way as you would squeeze a ball of dough.

This is actually quite painful!

Next, you start with the Gastrocnemius and Soleus stretches being very careful to avoid overstretching.

Of course, squeezing followed by stretching are good techniques to use once you suffer a leg or muscle cramp, however if you do suffer cramps regularly, if they affect your performance or if they wake you up at night, there are more permanent solutions you need to consider.

Male Hair Loss Natural Hair Loss Treatment

Writen by Kathlene Capelle

Men have been fighting hair loss since the beginning of time with methods that are at times ridiculous and dangerous. Today's man has more choices than previous generations, but harsh and unnatural chemicals may not be the first choice for many men. Fortunately, there are several hair loss products that are based on traditional, natural treatments that may be just as effective.

Male pattern baldness is often genetic and/or related to too much dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the follicles of the scalp. This is a specific type of testosterone that is only found in hair follicles. For years, saw palmetto oil has been used to treat prostate problems, and it has been found to have some beneficial effect in blocking the DHT that causes most male hair loss.

A good multivitiman containing B5, folic acid, silica and biotin will help maintain hair health, but be sure to regulate your dosages carefully. Taking in excess of 30mg of zinc daily can cause a copper deficiency, often linked to hair loss. Before supplementing copper, restrict your intake of zinc, as copper can become toxic.

Traditional asian medicine links hair loss to kidney malfunction and often prescribes a kidney tonic to correct male hair loss. Another ancient remedy is aromatherapy and the use of essential oils. A combination of rosemary, thyme, lavender and cedarwood was studied in Scotland and the results were encouraging. The essential oils were mixed with a carrier oil, either almond or grapeseed oil, warmed and then rubbed into the scalp. The treatment was continued with a warm head wrap. Used for several months, the tonic helped over 40% of the study's participants regrow hair.

Perhaps the easiest natural treatment for male hair loss is a change of diet. Increasing foods rich in iron and silica seems to help strengthen the existing hair and encourage new growth. Consider adding foods rich in silica like potato and cucumber skins, peppers and sprouts.

In today's overly medicated society, many are hesitant to try another prescription drug. You have a choice not to. Many of the natural hair loss treatments are pleasant and more often than not, have no side effects. You may be pleasantly surprised at the results.

Natural Treatments For Canker Sores

Writen by Lisa Barger

Known medically as aphthous stomatitis, canker sores are painful ulcers of the oral cavity. Canker sores can appear on the tongue, gums, soft palate or inside the lip or cheek. Most canker sores are little more than nuisances, but some can make talking, chewing and swallowing painful.

The exact cause of canker sores is unknown but doctors know that canker sores aren't contagious and, unlike cold sores, which are just herpes infections of the lip, canker sores don't seem to be virus-based. However, canker sores do seem to be related to gluten sensitivities, mouth injury and a depressed immune system.

There is some evidence that Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, a foaming agent commonly used in oral care products, may play a role in canker sore outbreaks. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, or SLS, encourages sloughing of the oral mucosa and dries the protective barrier of the mouth, allowing the more delicate tissue underneath to become damaged.

Most canker sores clear on their own within about three weeks but you can speed the healing process a bit by using the over-the-counter medication Debactoral. Though it isn't really a "natural" cure, Debactoral will chemically cauterize the area, reduce or eliminate pain, and cut the healing time down to about a week. Of course, if you experience a canker sore that just won't heal or one that seems to be getting worse instead of better, your doctor can advise you on the best course of treatment.

For a natural approach to canker sores, prevention seems to be the key. Canker sores are strongly linked to deficiencies of thiamin, iron, zinc, folic acid and B12. In addition to increasing your intake of the leafy greens known to be high in these nutrients, your health care provider may also test you for gluten sensitivity. Some gluten-sensitive patients have reported a complete remission of canker sores simply by eliminating this common allergen. Additionally, a round of probiotics, benefical bacteria capsules that can be purchased at any natural foods store, may be helpful for some people.

Alum, slippery elm and deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL) are popular natural treatments. Purchase these products at any large health food store, grind them into a powder and add just enough water to make a thin paste. Apply the paste directly to the sore.

Skin Care The Perfect Way To Care For Your Skin

Writen by Faye Spencer

Everywhere I go people are asking me what is the the most flawless skin care plan to follow? Is there even such a thing? Sorry to disappoint you, but if there is such a thing, I don't know what it is.

Let me be the first to say, that there is no perfect anything in this world let alone skincare programs. It varies wildly between individuals. There are so many constituents that come into play such as the person's skin type, whether they have acne, blemishes, or any other skin marks or conditions, etc.

Another thing that may affect a person's choice in skin care products is whether they have undergone a surgical procedure of sorts recently. If you are taking other skin care products at the moment, sometimes the formulations will clash with other products.

If you are a adult female and you are in the premenstrual stages, it may also bear on your skin to varying degrees. Another thing to consider is the seasonal changes and the differences in requirements that these changes bring with it.

For instance, skincare in the winter time is markedly different from the summer's. During the winter times your skin will probably be more dry or normal and you will most likely need to use moisturizers to keep your skin soft.

And during the summer months you will need to worry about things such as tanning lotion and using cleansers and exfoliators to clean off sweat and debris that gathers up when you are in movement.

Some people opt for vitamin C formulations to improve the health and youthfulness of their skin while others may use glycolic acid if there are signs of blackheads appearing. Salicylic acid is an option individuals use during the four levels of a menstrual cycle. Universally speaking, try using exfoliation to remove dead skin cells and to make room for new skins to grow out.

As you can in all likelihood tell by now, there are a huge range of skin care products on the market catering to every imaginable need. The most important thing is to sit down and ask yourself what you need now, and also in terms of prevention of things like wrinkles or blemishes in the future.

It is advised to speak with your dermatologist before following any skin care routine. Also you should consult with a professional if you plan on changing your routine very often or seasonally. This way you can save time, money, and also prevent any number of mistakes and mischances that could adversely affect your skin- rendering all your efforts outdated.

Eat Organic Flax Seed For Your Health

Writen by Elizabeth Hutchings

Flaxseed oil, and flaxseed is both rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which are great for your health. Flax helps the body in several ways. Flax helps improve the cardiovascular health of the individual. This is because flaxseed has massive levels of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These fatty acids lower LDL cholesterol levels. LDL cholesterol is considered bad cholesterol and having less lowers the risk of blood clots, heart disease, and heart attacks. Other foods have similar levels of fatty acids, fish oil and algae; however flaxseed is much more functional in that it can be easily incorporated into the diet. Flaxseed is great for colon health. Being high in both forms of fiber, soluble and insoluble, it acts as a natural laxative, and lubricant. This protects the colon from polyps and colon cancer.

Flaxseed can also give the body's immune system a well needed boost. Studies have shown that school aged children who ingested less than a teaspoon of flaxseed oil daily have less respiratory infections than children who did not take flaxseed. Omega-3 and omega-6 fats are precursors of brain building molecules therefore increasing the amount of these fats that are available directly increasing the development of the brain. This is especially true for infants and even babies in utero. Many women who are pregnant use flaxseed supplements in their diets and even while breastfeeding after birth.

Flax is also great for the skin. Flaxseed has the ability to treat patients who suffer from skin disorders from simple dry skin and eczema. The antioxidant properties of flaxseed help the skin hold in moisture which helpful in preventing wrinkles and reversing the aging process. Also, flax helps to stabilize the blood sugar levels especially in patients suffering from type I and type II diabetes.

Weight loss is also increased by flaxseed. Any fat that is high in fatty acids can increase the bodies metabolism. It can help to burn the excess bad fats within the body while letting the body use the good fats for energy and storage from flax. The process of storing fat is called thermogenesis and must be controlled in order to loose weight. Try flaxseed today for all your health needs!

3 Exercises For Good Posture And A Sixpack

Writen by Emmanuel Mendonca

These days many people spend a significant part of their day slaving away over a hot computer and as a result, their posture is not what it should be. Bad posture can result in short-term discomfort such as neck stiffness and headaches and also lead to more serious problems in later life. It is therefore worth spending some time to counteract the damage we may be doing to ourselves every day. But how about this - did you know that some of the same exercises that you can do to maintain good posture are the very same exercises, which if done regularly, can help you to achieve a six-pack? I am totally serious – this is something I discovered recently while looking at different exercise routines because I wanted to do something about my own bad posture. As well as sitting and standing up straight, you will also look good on the beach next summer. Kill two birds with one stone!

The following exercises should be done a minimum of three times per week and although you will not see and feel significant results for approximately 6-8 weeks, you will start to feel the developing muscles encouraging you to sit and stand straighter, almost immediately.

Pelvic tilt – Lie on the floor with your knees bent. Your feet should be parallel and arms to the side. Tighten your lower abdominal muscles, pulling your navel and lower back towards the floor. You should do this without using your buttocks or leg muscles to help you. Do this five times, holding for five seconds each time.

Trunk Curls – Lie on your back on the floor, with knees bent. Place your hands lightly behind your head. Using your upper abdominal muscles, raise your trunk off the floor to about 20 degrees and hold for 5 seconds. Then lie down again slowly. Do not put any strain on the neck or lead with your head. Try to imagine touching the ceiling with your chest. Repeat five times.

Arm / Leg raises – Lie face-down on the floor, keeping your neck straight, with your legs extended and arms straight overhead. Then slowly raise your left arm and right leg about six inches off the ground. Hold for five seconds and lower. Repeat with the right arm and left leg. Repeat five times on each side.

As you should before starting all types of exercise, consult your doctor if you have a history of health problems.

How Do Toric Lens Work

Writen by Charlie Cory

Before we can ask "How do toric lens work", we really need to understand what they do, and what they were created for.

Toric contact lenses can be soft, meaning they are made from soft plastic that can alter its shape to fit the shape of the eye. This is as opposed to hard (gas permeable - GP) lenses which are rigid in construction. A toric lens is special, in that it was designed to help correct astigmatism.

What Is Astigmatism?

Astigmatism can take two forms, but it is usually understood to mean an optical malfunction caused by a misshaping of either the cornea or the optic lens. A normal cornea is one with is round in shape, just like a ball. In an astigmatic, the shape is different, and the ends of the cornea have extended ends. More rugby ball or american football shaped. What happens then is that the light hits the cornea in two places rather than one. This is because the shape of the astigmatic eye has a steeper and flatter curve due to the shape of the cornea. This is called corneal astigmatism.

Sometimes, astigmatism is the result of an irregularly shaped optic lens, which is located behind the cornea. This is called lenticular astigmatism.

The effect to the sufferer is much the same though. Astigmatism manifests itself as slightly blurred vision, but can also cause headaches and eye aches.

How Is a Toric Lens Different To Other Contact Lenses?

When you place a contact lens in your eye, the lens sits on top of a film of water. If it didn't, your eye would be dry, and it would cause you discomfort. Because the lens is on a liquid platform, it can rotate, but in non astigmatics, this is not really a problem. However, in an astigmatic, the lens needs to stay put in order to correct the astigmatism. In a toric lens, this is achieved by weighting the lens so that the bottom is heavier than the top. This of course means that the bottom of the lens will always point downwards, ensuring that the prescription of the lens acts correctly.

There is one other difference of a toric lens over a normal one, in that the lens has two prescriptions in one. One will correct the astigmatism, and the other will correct the shortsightedness or long sightedness (depending on what you have).

Because of the more complex nature of the toric lens, they are often more expensive than conventional lenses.

Is It Time For A New Denture

Writen by Raul Glasgow

A high rate of elderly people wear dentures in the industrialized countries.

These people go to the dentist rarely for services. In Canada, according to a 1980 study, 72% of people over 65 years wear dentures. Their average time between dental visits is 15.3 years. Examination of these people indicated that 74% required treatment. More than 60% of the dentures worn by the elderly were at least 10 years old. What determines if a denture is performing correctly.

The evaluation of denture performance is base on a list of questions and the dentists clinical examination. The questions asked include: Do you feel that you chew food well with your dentures?

Do you feel that your dentures prevent you from eating foods you like? Do you have trouble chewing chopped carrots, boiled vegetables, steak, firm meat, apples, lettuce, mashed potatoes, and peanuts. The dentist performs tests to evaluate the fit and wear of the denture as well as its' retention and stability.

Retention is the ability of a denture to resist vertical or lateral pull. Stability is the ability of the denture not to rock on its supporting structure under pressure. Surprisingly, the retention-stability measurement did not accurately determine the patients chewing ability. A combination chewing test including some of the foods previously mentioned indicated more accurately the patients' chewing ability. Incidentally, apples were not a good measure of a dentures chewing ability, but more in the dentures retention or bite force ability. The conclusions are that denture wearers are optimistic about their chewing ability.

Denture wearers need to come in for regular maintenance to prolong the life expectancy of their dentures and for regular oral and cancer exams. Also, a denture does not have the same force in chewing as would your own teeth or dental implants.

If you have your own teeth, go to your dentist to save them. Sometimes in order to save teeth the dentist reduces the pressure on the teeth by making a overdenture or by splinting them. If you are concerned about losing your remaining teeth, the worst thing you can do is not going to the dentist. If you are afraid of dentures or would like extra help for your remaining teeth, ask your dentist about Implants.

Main Causes Of Bulimia

Writen by Thomas Morva

Some people may feel that they are fat, no matter how thin they actually are. Or they may feel guilty when they eat too much food. The guilt and shame from eating makes the person vomit up all their food. These people have bulimia nervosa, or bulimia, an eating disorder. The disorder has nothing to do with the digestive system, but rather with the mind. And though people with bulimia may share the same guilt and shame about food, and the same patterns of bingeing and purging, bulimia has many causes. Doctors have not identified any one cause of bulimia, but do know of several factors that may contribute to developing bulimia.

Bulimia may be caused by a genetic component. Certain genes may predispose a person to developing bulimia. Bulimia appears to run in families—people with relatives suffering from bulimia have a higher frequency of developing bulimia. This may, however, have more to do with family influences and role models than genetics.

Brain chemistry may also cause bulimia. Research indicates that people with bulimia tend to have different levels of a chemical in the brain called serotonin. Altered levels of serotonin may also contribute to clinical depression.

Social pressures may contribute to bulimia's development. People who want to please others may feel compelled to keep thin and fit. Women in particular receive daily messages to be thin. This drive may turn into an eating disorder.

Emotional stress from family problems or being a perfectionist may also contribute to a person developing bulimia.

A person with bulimia will first binge, meaning that he or she will eat more than 1,000 calories in one sitting. Sometimes, to a person with an eating disorder like a bulimia, eating a cookie might constitute a binge. The binge then triggers intense feelings of self-disgust and the person will induce vomiting, exercise excessively, or abuse laxatives to remove the perceived extra weight.

Bulimia is caused by numerous, subtle factors, and all people suffering from bulimia need treatment from a psychiatrist and therapy to break the binge-and-purge cycle. Bulimia is completely treatable.

Beat Hunger Pangs With Phentermine

Writen by Petr Thomas

We, human beings, are probably the only animals who overeat. Most animals don't eat when they are not hungry and when they do; they eat just enough to fill their bellies.

This is because man has been hard-wired by nature for huge appetites. This helped our ancestors cope with the physical labor they had to contend with in order to survive. They could also fall back on their fat reserves to tide over food scarcities.

Difficult to check appetite

But what was a boon for them has become a bane for the modern man because the gadgets at his disposal has to a large extent eliminated the need for any kind of physical stress in day-to-day life. So, we need to consume much fewer calories than our ancestors. But that is easier said than done for most people. Food scarcities, too, have become a thing of the past in most parts of the world. In fact, developed countries now cope with a problem of plenty. That is why obesity figures are the highest in these countries.

The simple fact is that barring those affected by problems like thyroid and certain genetic factors, most people are overweight because they are unable to control their appetites. They eat more than what their body needs to keep itself going.

Help available

Diet pills like Phentermine can bail out such people and put their life back on track. Phentermine diet pill is a nervous system stimulator and is in a class of drugs called anorectics. It changes the brain level of serotonin. This cheap diet pill works by stimulating the hypothalamus gland and affecting certain neurotransmitters to decrease appetite.

This appetite suppressant can thus help restore normal balanced eating habits. This will help in losing weight without undergoing the stress that dieting involves for most people.

Follow instructions

Normally, Phentermine diet pills are taken on an empty stomach about an hour before meals. Evening doses should be avoided because of the possibility of secondary insomnia. These blue and white cheap diet pills are most effective when taken as per directions and supplemented with adequate exercise and behavior therapy.

So, forget your defeatist attitude. Hope springs eternal. Buy Phentermine diet pills and celebrate the beauty of being alive. Look and feel better.

7 Important Tips For Yoga Success

Writen by Joan Yankowitz

Yoga has been proven to relieve stress by using exercises that unify the mind, body, and spirit. If you are new to yoga, these seven tips will start you on the road to a more centered life.

1. Talk to your doctor and explain what type of yoga poses you intend to practice. Show your doctor pictures of the poses for illustration. Your doctor may rule out specific poses if you have high blood pressure, glaucoma, a history of retinal detachment, or heart disease. Make sure you follow your doctor's recommendations.

2. Find a yoga class that best fits your abilities. Talk to prospective teachers, and decide whether of not you can handle a program before you sign up. It's very important to take it one step at a time. Try a few beginner classes before you attempt more vigorous classes. Don't move ahead too quickly. Allow your body to adjust to your exercises.

3. Listen to your body and be aware of your physical abilities. You don't want to hurt yourself. Make sure the instructor understands your level of experience and any limitations you may have. Don't allow anyone to push you ahead too quickly. Remember, this is supposed to be fun and relaxing.

4. If you can't find a class that meets your needs, you can always practice yoga at home. There are many books, programs, and tapes available to help you get started. Search for the best products on the Internet and read reviews. Talk to others for recommendations.

5. Why not try private lessons? You can book some one-on-one sessions with a teacher in your area. Most yoga instructors offer private classes or can help you design your own program. This is a good way to get started. You can always take group lessons or practice at home after you've had private lessons and learned the basics.

6. Find a yoga buddy. It's nice to practice with someone and it will help reduce injuries. It's also a great way to keep up your enthusiasm and interest.

7. Eat lightly before practice. Wait at least two hours after meals before yoga class or practice. An empty stomach is best, but don't let yourself get too hungry to think. You won't be able to focus on the poses or enjoy yourself during the relaxation or meditation exercises.

Now it's time to grab your mat and a towel and get the most out of your yoga exercises.

Diabetes Awareness Wake Up Call

Writen by David Anderson

When traveling on out-of-town business, its common to have the hotel front desk give you a wake-up call in the morning. You want to avoid the embarrassment and repercussions of being late for your business appointments.

Here is an important wake-up call for your life and the lives of the people you most care about.

If you want to avoid the life damaging effects of diabetes, take 3 minutes to read the remainder of this article right now.

The new buzz in the medical community calls it- "Pre-Diabetes". Today, roughly 41 million Americans have pre-diabetes which left undetected and untreated, progresses into full-blown diabetes.

The challenge with pre-diabetes is the fact that the condition doesn't like to reveal itself with noticeable symptoms. Because there are few, if any symptoms, most people will not bother having screening tests performed. With pre-diabetes, noticeable symptoms like frequent thirst and urination may not occur until the disease has progressed and is already causing considerable damage to your body. Most Type 2 diabetics don't have symptoms because the onset of diabetes is so slow.

Don't wait for "someday" to have your blood tested. Call your doctor today and make the appointment.

The goal with identifying pre-diabetes is to prevent the onset of diabetes from ever happening.

Your physician can determine if you have pre-diabetes with two common tests. The fasting plasma glucose test (FPG) and the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Both require an overnight fast.

The good news is that you can greatly improve your odds and likely prevent diabetes with early detection and proper care.

Don't wait 'til it hurts. Ask your doctor about diabetes and have your blood sugar checked several times a year.

An Introduction To Pilates

Writen by Richard Romando

Pilates is a series of exercises designed to improve flexibility and strength through a variety of stretching and balancing movements. It was developed by Joseph Pilates, a prisoner of war during the Second World War, and has become increasingly popular.

From when he was very young, Pilates took inspiration from the ancient Indian art of yoga, Zen Buddhism, and physical exercises of the Greek and Roman empires and conducted experiments that helped him gain strength.

Pilates introduced his exercises to the inmates of the German internment camp, helping them keep physically fit. He also introduced mat workout and physical exercise equipment made from bed springs.

Today Pilates has become particularly popular among dancers, athletes, celebrities and models, because in addition to helping to develop flexibility without causing a strain on the muscles, it also helps improve posture.

A regular Pilates regimen results in a flatter stomach and a thinner waist and thighs, as well as increasing mobility in joints. Like yoga, it also relieves stress and anxiety.

Chiropractic consultants recommend Pilates for strengthening the back and the spine. Physiotherapists also recommend Pilates, to those seeking rehabilitation after injuries to their limbs.

Pilates is also recommended for the elderly, people suffering from osteoporosis, and people who are overweight.

Pilates has become quite popular among athletes, dancers and actors because the workout improves not just the body but mind as well. Pilates' balanced approach ensures that no muscle group is overworked and as a result the body works as an efficient, holistic system.

Pilates is for everyone - the young, the old, the sedentary, the athletic, and those who have a physical disability.

Pilates helps improve strength, tone, flexibility and balance, and makes the body less prone to injury. It reduces stress, relieves tension, and boosts energy through deep stretching.

It creates a stronger, more flexible spine, promotes recovery from injury, increases joint motion, improves circulation, heightens neuromuscular coordination, corrects muscle groups, enhances mobility, agility and stamina, and improves the look and feel of your body.

Hair Loss In Women The Role Of Dht Amp Sebum

Writen by Mike Jones

Hair Loss In Women - The Role of DHT & Sebum - According to some estimates, Hair loss in women affects one in four women in the U.S.A. alone.

It can be very distressing for a woman, not least because it is so misunderstood and often fails to elicit sympathy from those closest to her. Hair loss in women is usually not so severe as hair loss in men.

Although the numbers of men and women experience hair loss or thinning hair is roughly equal, the degree of thinning is usually less for women.

Male pattern baldness and female pattern baldness are terms used to describe the hair loss and both conditions are known as androgenetic alopecia.

This term means hair loss caused by sensitivity to male hormones which exist in both men and women. DHT (Dihydrotestosterone) is one of the main enemies in the Hair loss in women war.

DHT is a combination of testosterone and androgen receptors mixed with sebum and dirt particles. DHT has a disastrous effect on the hair follicle so it begins to shut down and the hair eventually falls out. (Sebum is a fatty substance secreted from the sebaceous glands most of which open into hair follicles.)

Sebum buildup in the follicles attacks the hair bulb, the rounded area at the end of a hair strand which is rooted in the follicle. Sebum causes the hair bulb to shrink so the hair is not as well rooted.

After the hair falls out the new hair strand growing in that follicle is weaker and thinner and the process is repeated until the hair follicle is so damaged it dies.

Many products on the market therefore try and address this problem by effectively cleaning out the Sebum and dirt from the hair follicles.

Women often notice their own hair loss much sooner than it becomes visible to others. By the general feel, texture, and body of their hair, they realize it is getting thin.

Often, just behind the hairline, they notice a roundish shaped area that gets very thin. This rings alarm bells and those women then search out the best treatment.

Hair Loss Gets In The Way Of Having Pictureperfect Tresses

Writen by Gloria Diaz

Much has been said about hair being a person's crowning glory. You've probably noticed how every single shampoo and conditioner commercial emphasizes (and most of the time, over-emphasizes) the need to have long and silky tresses (for the women) and healthy and fuzz-free hair (for the gentlemen). In the metro, there's also a burgeoning of parlors and salons offering a variety of hair care services to cater to the hair whims of every customer. But the reality is that, not everyone is blessed with picture-perfect mane. Men and women have to deal with hair woes such as dry and oily hair, dandruff, split ends, and hair loss. Since premature loss of hair is hereditary, some people have to face the brutal fact that they would be bald sooner, not later, than they expect. It's an amazing thing to know that several kinds of hair loss treatment are now up for grabs in the market.

According to experts in the field of hair care, women should note that men are not the only ones who have the tendency to experience and suffer hair loss condition. It only seems men are more prone to having partial or complete balding but this doesn't mean women are safe. If a person is starting to notice excessive hair fall and bald spots, he or she should immediately consult his or her doctor. Although a person doesn't have any history of premature loss of hair in the family, he or she can get bald as a side effect of a particular drug. Aside from medication and genes, one can experience premature loss of hair because of an existing disease or illness such as cancer.

Nowadays, hair loss treatments may come in the form of pomade or surgical enhancement. He or she can choose among different brands or methods according to his or her budget and preference.

How do surgical or non-surgical treatments actually fight a person's biological tendency to lose excessive amount or hair? Manufacturers behind most kinds of hair loss treatment like growth stimulators, super oxide dismutase and anti-antrogens explain that these services or products generally stimulate hair follicles to ensure production of healthier and stronger hair strands. But the more effective treatment is DHT inhibitors which prevent 5-Alpha Reductase and testosterone from teaming up and thus, resulting in noticeably less hair fall. Though hair loss is an inevitable reality for some, one can do something to prevent and fight it.

Foods That Increase Your Fat Metabolism

Writen by Terje Ellingsen

Many weight loss dieters around the world are probably wondering if there are any foods that that have the ability to increase your fat metabolism which in turn aid the body's fat burning capability for the purpose of loosing weight. The fact is that there are certain kinds of food that increase your metabolism just by eating them. These kinds of food are called negative calorie food.

So, let's say you ate this and it caused you to burn 18 calories: Here is the math: You ate 10 calories. These 10 calories burned 18 calories. You have burned 8 calories net just by eating this piece of food. Fantastic!

Hair Removal For Menhow Tos

Writen by John Mancini

Today's men are most definitely not the men of yesterday. Today's man is not content with shaving as his sole means of hair removal. He wants something more sophisticated, something that is longer lasting and better for his skin. He also wants to rid himself of body hair and is not only worried about facial hair as his father and grandfather. Hair removal for men is something that they think about, whether they admit it or not. The following tips will help the men of today decide which hair removal method is right for him.

Waxing is also an option, but can be very painful. This procedure requires the use of melted wax that is poured on directly on the hair that is to be removed. Then the wax is pulled off, in the opposite direction as the hair growth, pulling the hairs buy the root with it. This is a very effective way for hair removal for men, as it works equally well on fine hair as well as on course the course hairs that are often found on the backs and chests of many men. Waxing generally needs to be done approximately every four to six weeks to keep the body hair free.

If you are considering any of these forms of hair removal for men, it might be a wise idea to consult a beauty salon. While this idea may not sit well with some men, these are the people who will have the answers you need, after all, they have been taking care of women's unwanted hair issues for years.

Thankfully, the hair removal industry is beginning to take notice to the requests that they have been receiving from men. A popular depilatory company has formulated a cream that works well on men's course hairs. Traditional creams, made for women, were formulated to remove fine hairs, and were not a good match for men's needs. This method usually will need to be redone about every two or three weeks.

Men can use many of the same types of hair removal systems as that are available for women. For example, a man that is interested in getting rid of chest hair can try depilatory creams, waxing or electrolysis. All of which will also work for facial and back hair issues as well. However, many men that want to rid themselves of unwanted hair may not be so motivated as to shop in the women's beauty isle.

John Mancini has been writing about Laser Hair Removal online and offline for a long time. Visit http://ez-hair-removal.net or http://hair-removal-expert.net to read more about matters like electrolysis hair removal and facial hair removal.

Nail Fungus Infection

Writen by R. Drysdale

Nail fungus infection usually starts with the toes. At first you might just notice some puzzling yellow discoloration of a toenail. What you won't see is the network of fine fungal mycelia (like branching stalks) that are spreading out in the sheltered tissue under the toenail.

The fungal growth tends not to spread into the tissue of the toe, at least not right away. Your body's immune system is holding it at bay. Rather, it grows through the matrix of the toenail, getting nutrients from keratin, a protein found in toe- and fingernails. Nails are not living tissue, and they don't produce an immune response to the invader, so a nail fungus infection can get well established in the toenail before you even know it's there.

The fungi that invade nails are called dermatophytes, which means, roughly, fungi that like skin. At the site of infection, usually near the tip of the toe, a fungal colony grows (think of a piece of bread that has gone moldy: each spot of mold is a colony). As the colony gets bigger and better developed, it will start producing spores that can be spread around. They get into socks and shoes, carpets, shower stalls, and bedding. They get spread to other toes, and if conditions are right, they'll set up a new nail fungus infection there. Eventually, they may even spread to the fingernails.

In an advanced nail fungus infection, the toenail gets completely broken down. The fungus has spread throughout the matrix of the nail and digested the keratin so that the toenail becomes thick and flaky, or powdery. Many dermatophytes produce pigments – secretions that are yellow, brown, black, green, and even red (again, think of a really moldy piece of cheese, or fruit and all the colors you may see there). These colors may be visible in the crumbling nail.

The skin around the nail often becomes inflamed as well, because most of the dermatophytes that cause nail fungus infection can infect the skin as well. The skin may become red and irritated looking, or it may just be dry and scaly, looking more like dry skin than an infection. In time, the foot becomes very uncomfortable, and wearing shoes may be extremely painful. Let's hope you don't let your nail fungus infection get to that stage before you seek treatment.

R. Drysdale is a freelance writer with more than 25 years experience as a health care professional. She is a contributing editor to Nail Fungus Infection, a blog dedicated to the treatment of fingernail and toenail fungus.

Car Sickness 15 Ways To Prevent Car Sickness

Writen by Todd Molloy

I have been travelling on long car trips ever since I was a young kid, mostly because it was cheaper for our family of 6 than flying but also because I happen to live in, what I believe to be, the most wonderful place in the world, Western Australia. We didn't need to fly because we usually stayed within our own state (even though for those of you that dont know it is an absolutely enormous state!)

Anyway, back to the point. Nothing makes a holiday or long trip worse than car sickness. Contrary to "popular" belief, babies suffer from car sickness less than the average person and the elderly rarely experience car sickness. However children between the ages of 5 and 15 are most susceptible to car sickness.

By operating an adventure tour in WA and taking many people on long trips all year round I have seen a lot of car (or bus) sickness. What follows are my top ten tips, from experience ;) to prevent car sickness.

TOP 15 TIPS TO PREVENT CAR SICKNESS

1. Get a good nights sleep before the trip

2. Seek medical advice about travel sickness pills

3. Remove dangling ornaments from the car

4. Avoid rich food and alcohol before the trip (obviously kids wont be having any alcohol, right?!)

5. Fasten seat belts correctly (ie not too tight around the waist)

6. Do not read or write while travelling

7. Start the journey without delays or last minute panic

8. Ensure each passenger has forward vision

9. Support children so they can see out of the front window

10. Stop the car frequently - stroll and get some fresh air

11. Drive smoothly, corner slowly, brake gently

12. Watch for symptoms such as yawning, coldness, pallor, loss of alertness

13. If vomiting occurs, stop and let the person walk a little and have a sip of water

14. Let a sickness-prone person sit in the front seat, where the ride is smoother

15. Maintain good ventilation. A sick person should sit near an open window or air vent

I hope you will find these tips as useful as I have and remember; excitement or energetic activity before a journey can make matters worse!

Todd is part of a family owned and run adventure tour company operating out of Western Australia. He has many years experience in travel and the outdoors. For more information about this article, other related content, or his tours, visit his website at http://www.crikey-adventure-tours.com

Weight Loss Pill Think Before You Take

Writen by Margarette Tustle

A weight loss pill may not be the solution to your weight problem that you have been searching for. Would you take a pill if you knew that it could potentially cause diarrhea, hair loss, compulsive shaking, high blood pressure, impotence, depression, heart failure, and many other complications? You may say that the risk could be worth it, if the drug really works-and besides, many over the counter medications and prescription drugs have potential side effects. A weight loss pill may seem like a "quick fix" to someone who suffers from a weight issue, but the warnings about these drugs are not just idle threats-they are serious.

Health Risks

Being overweight is a health risk-it can cause all kinds of problems with your heart, your blood pressure, your circulation, your ability to move around, and so on and so on. But a weight loss pill may just make those problems worse. When you attempt to lose weight quickly by suppressing your appetite, speeding up your metabolism or inhibiting your body's ability to absorb food, you run the risk of harming the very things you are trying to help-like your heart.

Are They Safe?

For years doctors have been telling us that the best and safest way to lose weight is to eat healthy foods (and eat less) and to exercise regularly. But, many people find that the results of this type of diet plan are just too slow, so they turn to a weight loss pill. They are offered at nearly every drug store, discount department store, grocery store and even at health food stores. But, these drugs are not usually regulated by the FDA and have not been tested for safety or effectiveness in carefully conducted studies. The weight loss pill will usually promise nearly immediate results-which are what most dieters are looking for. But, truly effective weight loss takes a lifestyle change and a long term commitment to your health.

Meet With Your Doctor

If you are serious about weight loss, you should make an appointment with your doctor before you take any weight loss pill. Your doctor will not only have suggestions on how to improve your diet, and what kind of exercise program will work best for you, but they may also be able to find out if there are any other conditions which are causing your excess weight problem. If there are problems there may be a prescription weight loss pill you can take to help you to lose weight.

The Benefit Of Exercise Traditional Chinese Style

Writen by Matthew Scott

The Nei Jing, or Inner Classic, the oldest Chinese medical text and source of all Chinese medical theory states: "Prolonged sitting damages the flesh" and "Prolonged lying damages the qi." The Nei Jing was written between 300 and 100 B.C, which means Chinese doctors have known for over 2000 years that lack of physical exercise causes health problems. Consequently, a vast array of therapeutic exercises and exercise systems have developed and been refined over many centuries in China. What works is still in use; what doesn't was discarded long ago.

Walk through almost any park in China in the morning and you'll see people doing stretching, strengthening, breathing, massage and relaxation exercises. Why? Because these are time-tested ways to promote health and prevent ill health. Stretching exercises limber your muscles and joints, which promotes blood and qi (vital energy) circulation. Strengthening exercises, particularly for your back and legs, not only strengthen and tone, but also provide balance and support for your body. Breathing exercises energize and relax you and enhance your blood and qi circulation. Massage also promotes circulation and relaxes you, and tones your muscles and internal organs.

Traditional Chinese health exercises and techniques are:

  • Simple to learn & easy to do
  • Require no equipment, classes or training partners
  • Suitable for young & old, men & women
  • Can be done virtually anywhere, anytime, and
  • Require just 15-30 minutes daily
  • What's the single, most important benefit of exercise, traditional Chinese style? The greatest benefit of Chinese health exercises and exercise systems is that they are holistic, i.e. they benefit your body, mind and spirit. Most people exercise primarily to develop a strong, toned body, which of course brings many benefits. However, including exercises and techniques in your workouts to deepen your breathing, calm your mind and balance your emotions, takes your health to a whole new level!

Matthew Scott is a professionally trained Chinese medicine practitioner from Australia, living in China since 2000. Matthew has been doing Chinese style exercises for over 15 years. His website http://chinese-holistic-health-exercises.com provides classic Chinese therapeutic exercises & techniques to stretch, strengthen, energize, relax & relieve pain & stiffness.

Win The Weight Loss Battle With Your Mind

    Writen by Peter Fisher

Most people who really do want to lose weight need first to conquer what's going on in their heads! When you consider the weight-loss process, it is almost entirely in your mind. I'm not just talking will-power, actually something much easier.

Most of your weight loss help is going to come in the form of changed thinking. Much of the time we seem to spend telling ourselves what we shouldn't do, yet the more we tell ourselves these things, the more we seem to do them. It's as if what we resist most, persists longest. When we feel as if we've got no willpower what do we do? We confirm that this is the case by going on to eat that slice of cake just to comfort ourselves. It's no surprise then that the real battle is with that negative self-talk.

So what you really need more than a new gimmicky diet as a means of weight loss, is a way to rethink those self-defeating thoughts and replace them with something altogether more positive. However, this is easier said than done and requires a certain amount of practice. The trick is to listen to yourself – the chatter in your head is almost constant. Do you find yourself saying "I shouldn't eat that, but I'm such a gannet that I'm going to"? Think about this - you applied the label then showed how true it was. Aren't you better than being a 'gannet'?

So start by looking out for when you use one of those negative statements, then try to replace them with a positive thought; "I am only human but I don't need to give in to every temptation" can be used as a delaying mechanism, then you can decide to enjoy that snack in an hours time. Or later!

Many people find they cannot change their eating habits until they change their relationship with food, eating and drinking. By discarding any negative labels you apply to yourself and replacing them with supportive and productive thoughts, eating habits can be changed and weight loss can be sustained.

In our society, food is more than simply fuel, but if you use too much, or the wrong type of fuel for your lifestyle you are in danger of creating a health hazard for yourself. Aim to rethink your relationship with food and you can thoroughly enjoy it without it overburdening you. You can be good to yourself more by careful appreciation than by over-indulging.

    Bad Breath After Tooth Pulled

    Writen by R. Drysdale

If you use the following words in a Google search: bad breath after tooth pulled, you will quickly discover that your search doesn't result in a lot of sites about halitosis. It results in a lot of dentistry sites. This might seem self evident – after all, you've just had a tooth extracted. On the other hand, bad breath is such a common problem that many many people have it without going through dental procedures. Halitosis following dental extraction, however, is a sign of a particular problem and you should pay attention to it.

Changing your search a little bit, to bad breath after wisdom tooth pulled, will yield similar results – this is actually a more exact search than bad breath after tooth pulled, because in the majority of cases, the tooth that was extracted was a wisdom tooth, and the problem lies with the unhealed tooth socket in the back of the mouth. The problem is known as dry socket.

A dry socket occurs when there is no blood clot in the hole that the tooth came out of. A blood clot may never have formed there, or it may have fallen out for some reason. The bad breath after tooth extraction comes along with moderate to severe pain that may feel more like a bad earache than a tooth ache. Regardless of the cause or how bad it feels, Googling bad breath after wisdom tooth pulled isn't going to help you: call your dentist or dental surgeon and let them know you need to be seen right away.

The dentist knows all about dry sockets and bad breath after tooth extraction, and he or she can make you more comfortable and help the socket to heal. Follow the instructions you are given carefully – these usually include instructions not to smoke or suck on straws, chew crunchy foods, or brush vigorously in the extraction area. Most dentists, however, advise you on how to keep your mouth clean and fresh while it heals. If you don't keep you mouth clean, you will have bad breath after tooth extraction for other reasons!

When you've had some medical attention, and your mouth is feeling better, feel free to sit down and Google bad breath after tooth pulled. You will be able to read all about it on numerous dental sites, and you may even be able to add the story of your ordeal to a forum on dental problems – or a forum on bad breath.

    Sleep Better

    Writen by Dr Wei Feng

Good sleep is very important to the human life. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, a human body is considered as a mini nature. When the sun descends, the night is coming; meanwhile the Qi (vital energy ) and blood slip into the interior and human fall into sleep. This is a well balanced status for person. Now, you can get a conclusion that if Qi and blood can not enter into the body in the evening because of any reasons, you will get into insomnia.

There are numerous of reasons that cause vital energy and blood can not go into the inside, such as disharmony between the heart and kidney, deficiency of Qi and blood of the heart and spleen, lack of yin of liver and eat too much or starvation. A person can not sleep peacefully, manifesting the difficulty in going into sleep, easy to wake after sleep and not easy to sleep again and so on. It is just a Traditional Chinese Medicine theory-"yang can not enter into yin".

Moreover, it is should be realized that Qi and blood go into the interior in the night in order to exert the function of nourishing visceral. "Not to sleep in the night, not to energetic in day time", so the concomitant symptoms must be distractibility, irritation, stress, listlessness and dizziness in the daytime.

The main treating principle of insomnia in Traditional Chinese Medicine include communicating heart and kidney, nourishing Qi and blood of heart and spleen, promoting digestion and removing retention of food .The representative formulae are "Harmony-Preserving diets, with Herbs, legumes and Teas that can assist the natural balance. Acupuncture, meditation and massage have a fine effect on insomnia too. Foot massage can also help the energy that flows in the body to a good night sleep. Another technique is to do "breathing exercise". Try to inhale very, slowly and deep through the nose, and exhale slowly, at least thirty times. It is almost guaranteed you will not get to thirty, if you do it deep enough.

Perhaps the most important point to realize about insomnia is that it is not a disease, but rather a symptom. This symptom can occur with many different types of illnesses or conditions. In the majority of cases, underlying causes exist for the insomnia is physical, although in the stressful life the everyday worries may also affect the sleep.

At last, do not fight it. If you cannot feel sleepy, get out of bed, go for a walk, and eat something sweet and light …. Read a book or listen to music.

    Have a Good Night.

More Secure Drugs Reduce Need For Narcotics

    Writen by Paul Douglas

An anesthesiologist Raymond Sinatra says: "Lowering morphine consumption reduces postsurgical complications and helps patients recover quicker. That translates into shorter hospital stays, healthier patients, and reduced health care costs."

On the one hand morphine relieves pain, but on the other hand it may cause unwanted side effects such as nausea, vomiting, constipation, drowsiness, and a slowdown in breathing. That is why anesthesiology research concentrates on looking for alternative drugs that can reduce or eliminate the need for morphine.

It can be achieved thanks to a new soluble form of acetaminophen delivered by a catheter into a vein. This drug reduced morphine intake by more than 30% in patients studied following major hip or knee surgery who were able to give themselves the narcotic by means of a patient-controlled analgesia pump. It is expected that the medication will be approved soon by U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Sinatra says that the injectable form of acetaminophen reaches the central nervous system sooner and in a higher concentration than in standard tablet form. This is how it enhances the drug's analgesic power. It is a wonderful method of dealing with pain in orthopedic patients (suitable healing following many types of orthopedic surgeries relies on an inflammatory process helping build new bone). Injectable acetaminophen is not an anti-inflammatory drug and this is why it does not interfere with this healing process.

A second Yale research discovered the safety and effectiveness of a COX-2 inhibitor, rofecoxib, as a surgical pain reliever. The study zeroed in on the medication's ability to decrease pain and ameliorate the ability of patients to cough after abdominal surgery as well as its role in diminishing morphine intake. COX-2 inhibitors act by selectively switching off one of the cylooxygenase (COX) enzymes that is in charge of the production of prostaglandins.

Surgical cut in the abdominal area usually make a 30-40% decrease in normal breathing patterns, especially in patients receiving morphine after surgery. The patients who got a single 50-mg dose of rofecoxib syrup before surgery had just a 15% decline in lung function after surgery, compared to 35-40% for the placebo group. What's more, the rofecoxib group consumed 44% less morphine than the control group within the first 24 hours after surgery.

According to Sinatra, "While we won't eliminate the need for morphine in the near future, administration of safe non-narcotic analgesics can minimize its use while at the same time improving Pain relief.

Home Remedies To Cure Nail Fungus

    Writen by R. Drysdale

Home remedies to cure nail fungus are easy to come by. They have the advantage of being relatively inexpensive, but virtually all of them have mixed reviews: whichever one you pick, you will find that some people say it worked for them and others will say it didn't work. Most of them have not been clinically tested. It's important to remember, however, that the prescription medications get similarly mixed reports, and clinical testing has confirmed that they don't work for everyone either.

Home remedies to cure nail fungus tend to be relatively safe when used as directed, and with a little common sense. Many of them are household products, such as white vinegar or bleach (used diluted!) or common over the counter (OTC) products like Vicks VapoRub, or Listerine mouthwash. All the usual cautions apply to home remedys for nail fungus: think carefully before putting anything in your mouth that isn't food, and always read labels and pay attention to any cautions you see there.

Besides the home remedys for nail fungus, there are a number of commercially available natural remedies that you may want to investigate. The majority of these are topical treatments that are applied to the infected fingernails or toenails. They include essential oils, such as Tea Tree oil, or oregano oil, an antifungal "mud" called Saprox, and various other creams and lotions. The problem with topical preparations and home remedies to cure nail fungus is that they may not penetrate the thick toenail and do not directly contact the fungus. This is one reason that many people prefer a prescription drug that is taken orally.

One of the commercially available home remedys for nail fungus, Leucatin, combines a topical solution and an herbal supplement that is taken orally. The manufacturers of this product claim that the solution is unusually effective at penetrating the nail, while the herbal pills help the immune system fight off the fungus from the inside. If their claims are true (results within two weeks and over 90% success rate), the treatment performs substantially better than any other home remedies to cure nail fungus. And although it's more expensive than white vinegar, it's much cheaper than the prescription alternatives.

    1800 Calorie Diabetic Diets

    Writen by Eddie Tobey

A diabetic diet differs from person to person for the simple reason that individual calorie requirements and general constitution vary from person to person. Amongst many such diabetic diets, there is the 1,800 calorie diabetic diet that restricts the food intake of the diabetic patient to 1,800 calories. Such restrictions are imposed in order to control the patient's blood sugar and cholesterol levels and also his body weight. However, more than this goal, what is sought to be brought about through this diet is a healthy eating habit.

In a 1,800 calorie diabetic diet, the breakfast should ideally consist of two slices of bread, a cup of skimmed milk, one serving of a fruit like a medium-sized banana or an orange, and a tablespoon of cheese. One can easily substitute the milk with a cup of unsweetened yogurt or the bread with pasta. This particular type of breakfast incorporates all the nutrients that a person can need. There's starch in the form of bread, fat in the form of cheese, and there's the protein from milk and the daily serving of fruit, which everybody needs as a source of vitamins.

At lunch, there should protein in the form perhaps two portions of turkey or chicken or some type of fish, or a portion of a poultry product and a portion of cheese. However, the meat, if taken, should be de-skinned and cooked with as little oil and condiments as possible. In fact, the healthiest way to have poultry is to have it roasted or baked. One can have half a cup of rice or pasta and any fruit during lunch. There should be a cup of fresh vegetables during lunch. The idea is to take all forms of nutrients at every major meal.

The afternoon snack should be something light on the stomach, such as a few crackers and a cup of milk or yogurt. One can also have half a cup of tea, but with a low-calorie sweetener instead of sugar. Sugar is not banned in diabetes, but it should be consumed in moderate quantities. And, it is always a good idea to substitute it with other forms of carbohydrates, such as yogurt, rice or cereal.

For dinner, there should be some protein like fish or meat, vegetables like a cup of carrots, beans or tomatoes, a fruit serving like pear or pineapple or an orange, a cup of rice or two rice cakes. One can have a cup of milk as the nightcap.

    Fibromyalgia Pain

    Writen by Max Bellamy

If you feel like there's nothing wrong with you but you have been experiencing body aches and fatigue for a long time now, it's time to consult a doctor. This is especially true if you did not engage in tiring activities. The muscle pains that you are experiencing are no ordinary pains: You might have Fibromyalgia.

What is Fibromyalgia? This is a very prevalent condition that affects about three to six million Americans (mostly women). It's not life-threatening, for it does not lead to a more serious disorder, but the pain can be disabling. It can hinder you from doing things you usually do, and it can even interfere with your work or with your personal relationships.

Understanding its nature, its symptoms, and common treatments is necessary so you can know what to do in case you experience its symptoms.

Muscular pains are among its major symptoms. They are chronic, which means that they frequently recur or are continuing. Fibromyalgia patients experience different kinds of muscular pains. They vary from shallow muscle pains to deep muscle pains, throbbing pains, stabbing pains, and burning pains.

The pain can be felt all over the body or in specific areas (tender points) where pressure is applied. It feels like you've been hit with a hard object like a baseball bat at the back, on the shoulders, on the hips, or on your legs. Do you remember how it felt when you had a bad case of the flu before? The pain is almost similar to that, or even worse.

Pain is accompanied by a feeling of over-exhaustion even when you're not overworked, depression, anxiety, migraines, and sleeping problems.

All these symptoms, including muscle pains, are aggravated by several factors like changes in weather conditions, allergies, hormonal changes, stress, physical activities, and depression, among others. Pain is worse in the morning, according to most patients.

To relieve the pain, you can take analgesic drugs, which are over-the-counter drugs. Whenever you feel body aches, taking these drugs can ease out the pain, but if you experience other symptoms such as severe sleeping disturbances, it would be best to consult your physician so that he or she can provide you with the appropriate treatment.

Alcohol And Drug Rehab Binge Drinking And Alcohol Poisoning

    Writen by Jonathan Huttner

Binge drinking, which at least 44% of the college population has taken part in between the years of 1994-2004 takes the lives of about 50 college students every year. In excess of 1400 college students die each year from alcohol related injuries. Binge drinking is defined, by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, as five or more drinks in a row for men and four or more alcohol drinks for women.

Alcohol poisoning generally occurs when a person consumes a large quantity of alcohol over a short period of time. Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant, which can definitely be lethal and is capable of producing various physical, emotional and behavioral effects as it acts upon different parts of the brain.

At a low level of alcohol consumption, inhibitions are reduced with vision, movement and speech impaired. With a greater amount of alcohol coordination, reflexes and balance is affected and after that the consumption of more alcohol affects a person's brain to the point where it's ability to control respiration and heart rate is impaired. Lastly, a person's heart rate can drop extremely low and breathing can cease resulting in coma or death.

To better understand alcohol poisoning, the body generally oxidizes about one ounce of alcohol (one drink) per hour. Depending how much one drinks, what they have in their stomach and how quickly they drink, it may take 45-90 minutes after a person stops drinking for them to reach their highest level of intoxication. This is why the person who has been abusing alcohol and has passed out must be watched very closely.

Some of the symptoms of alcohol poisoning are unconsciousness, vomiting (often without awakening), shallow breathing and clammy, pale skin. If you suspect alcohol poisoning, call 911 immediately. If you suspect the person may have a problem with alcohol or is alcoholic, do your best to get them into an alcoholism treatment center or drug rehab for a thorough evaluation. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Fighting Acne Using Toners And Medications

    Writen by Mark Gardner

The second step in your treatment regimen is the toners or medication. However, you really need some idea of how sensitive your skin is. You may well want something that is as smooth as rose water, or something as stern as benzoyl peroxide. However, if you're not sure, then begin with the softest option and work your way up, until you find an effective treatment. You can also see you're dermatologist who will be more than happy to help you.

There's a comprehensive choice of toners and medications available for every skin type. You'll find that toners are usually used for caring for your skin after your acne therapy as cleared up the blemishes you had. The medication works to rid you of you're pimples and also stop other spots from forming. However, if ace does persist, then you should continue with the medications before changing over to the toners.

When applying toners to your skin, after you've washed your face, then apply your toner with a soft cotton ball. Toners get to work on acne by restoring and balancing the skin's natural pH. Also, you'll find that the toners will help to clean up any remaining oil, dirt and soap excess. Finally, your toner will seal up the top of the pore and help to restore it to its original size. The main ingredients in any toner that is used as an acne remedy are rose water, witch hazel and also alcohol.

There also happens to be numerous kinds of medications available for you. Normally, you'll learn that there are four main ingredients involved in a great many of the medications available to us. Some of the brands will mix them, while others will be based on a single ingredient. One of the most common treatments available is Benzoyl Peroxide; the optimum concentration obtainable is at 2.5%, anything over that will only burn your face.

Peroxide functions by moving into your open pores and making oxygen; the bubbling this produces helps destroy the bacteria that's to blame for your acne. Salicylic acid penetrates your skin and softens your spots; it will also slow down cell shedding. Sulfur as been used to treat acne for hundreds of years. It will dry your skin and also break down your blackheads. But it can discolor your skin, irritate you, it smells and it may lead to further acne appearing because it will intensify cell shedding. Resorcinol also penetrates your skin and softens the hard areas that usually pimple, however, this also may lead to irritation and isn't a reliable treatment.

    Swimsuits And Protecting Your Skin

    Writen by Robert Ferrero

The summer approaches and you feel its time to get a great tan this time. You put on your swimsuit and off to the swimming pool or favorite beach. But beware that suntan if done improperly can cause you lots of skin problems.

How to solve the skin problems and those hazardous ultra violet rays? The answer seems to be simple use sunscreens.

Remember not all sunscreens are created equal. If you go for the price you may unknowingly compromise the quality. Always read the SPF i.e. the sun protection factor before you buy the sunscreen.

The SPF number simply tells people how much longer they can last out in the sun without being burned. The higher the SPF number, the longer your skin is protected against the sun.

Let me give you an example. Lets say you use a sunscreen of SPF 15 it simply means that you can be in the sun for 15 minutes linger than normal before being burnt out.

For fair skin individuals a SPF between 20 and 30 is recommended. For dark skin individuals An SPF of 2-4 is recommended.

After choosing an appropriate sunscreen, apply it before going out into the sun. Be sure and apply it generously over all skin that will be exposed. Another important factor is the swimsuits you use. They can cut the exposure from 1 fifth of the suns total (approx. SPF 5) less than 1 50th (SPF 50+) by simply changing their swimwear.

We recommend the sunsmart company for this. By utilizing the exclusive protective technology utilized by Sunsmart, that is exactly what can be accomplished. In short, Sunsmart represents the single most advanced and effective protection that one can provide for infants and young children against the hazardous effects of Ultra-violet light.

Imagine having the ability to cut the amount of harmful and potentially dangerous UV light your child is exposed to from 1 fifth of the suns total (approx. SPF 5) less than 1 50th (SPF 50+) by simply changing their swimwear. But most people are ignorant about these facts.

At the end of summer we want a great tanned skin and not a badly burnt out body.

Always make sure you apply the recommended sunscreen properly.

Taking good care of your skin will add years to your look and remember your skin is the only barrier between you and this hostile environment.
